That plot twist, holy shit! So Zangetsu all along wasn't Ichigo's true zanpakutou and instead was Yhwach/Juha Bach 1000 years ago. That explains how similar they looked, really nice foreshadowing Kubo. I just like how Kubo tends to make Ichigo get mind fucked. Definitely one of the best chapters in this arc so far.

Except there's nothing in the manga that goes against this twist, and MULTIPLE scenes that fit in foreshadowing this.

Multiple characters said that something is OFF with Ichigo's powers and bankai.

Ichigo's fighting style IS pretty much throwing arrows at people instead of shooting them.

Shirosaki refered to himself as TRUE Zangetsu multiple times calling the Old Man a fake.

Both Tesai and Urahara had a horrible reaction to Ichigo's training.

The first "Old Man Zangetsu" did when meeting Ichigo was teaching him reishi manipulation.

Why would Shirosaki use the sword's main ability first before even Ichigo and why would "Old MAn Zangetsu" never do those things?

Ichigo's FGT is pretty much identical to leitz stilt. lol Now you're just being ridiculous. Be honest, if someone would have told you back in the last arc that zangetsu's true spirit was the hollow and the old man was an evil imposter you would have never believed them because there was no proper foreshadowing. None of the things that you brought up were meant to give the readers a hint to this new development.

1. Byakuya only commented on the size of his bankai and then immediately realized its compact form was for speed.

2. Ichigo's fighting style is clearly nothing like a quincy's nor is FGT like Litz Stil.... don't even need to get into all the things wrong with that.

3. Back then, the hollow called himself zangetsu because he had overtaken the old man as the dominant figure within ichigo. Before that he claimed to have no name. He even says that he is only a part of zangetsu, implying that the old man was the main zanpakuto spirit and that together they make up ichigo's power. Nowhere did he say that he was the true zanpakuto spirit or that the old man was an impostor. http://www.mangahere.com/manga/bleach/v25/c218/19.html

Again, no real foreshadowing or planning prior to this arc. Zangetsu's character was not based around Ywach. Ywach's character was based around zangetsu and zangetsu is now something he wasn't before.

And? What difference would it make if Zangetsu was designed with Bach in mind or if Kubo went back & based Bach off Zangetsu? If it's the later, it's nothing new. Hell, you should go read Bakuman. They use it as a plot device in a manga that's about writing manga.

You can try to rationalize it all you want but the truth of the matter is old man "zangetsu" WAS ichigo's zanpakuto spirit throughout this entire manga up until this recent arc when kubo decided to change his character.

He taught ichigo shikai. He synced up with ichigo to defeat kenpachi. He manifested during his bankai training. And again in a younger form while learning final getsuga. "White" however has done nothing but act like how all other inner hollows were said to, trying to take over as the lead consciousness. What makes it even more frustrating is that ichigo's quincy blood was supposed to be completely dormant throughout this story, but yet Old man "zangetsu" was there at the forefront within ichigo's soul since day 1...

Whatever, It's kubo's story and he's free to do what he wants with his characters i guess. He can make Don Kanoji the spirit king in the next chapter if he wanted to and we would all just have to run with it lol.

Well he did throw hints at us.

And he was never able to use much power because his powers were sealed.

After reading the Mangastream translation everything makes more sense now lol.

^Holy shit, yeah! It actually makes a lot more sense now with Mangastream's translation. So his actual zanpakutou is is his hollow while Juha Bach was actually his quincy powers. Well my mind is blown. I'm now curious with the connection between Zangetsu and Engetsu...

If you guys think this is some super plot twist, and didn't see this coming when we first saw Juha, then you really don't pay attention much when you read manga.

agreed!!!

Kubo's character design look the same for a lot of character. It's like saying Masaki is related to Matsumoto with no other basis than them looking alike.

Masaki is brunette while Matsumoto is busty/big boobs with blonde hair so huge difference there

and the story speaks for itself when it was revealed that all Quincy has the blood of Juha Bach so its no surprise that it manifested on Zangetsu too

You really cant blame people for thinking like that. Look at Ichigo and Kaien they look almost exactly alike.

soo what about his dad? He use Getsuka tenshou a few chap ago too.

Twin zanpaktou?

Well is not a twin zanpaktou  Ichigo has his shinigami powers from his dad so i think he inherited "Getsuka tenshou" and "White" the hallow merged with his shinigami's power(thats why i'm saying Zangetsu is Hichigo) so thats how i think it is , for me this makes sense

It's not about 'not paying attention', it's that we can't base a character relation on them look similar anymore.

When it's stated that they look similar it's one thing, when you only assume they are looking similar through Kubo's drawing style, it's another.

Up to now, there was no set relation between Zangetsu and Bach so this was still a wild guess and acting like it was obvious is pretty much retarded.
