People usually state what they hate about the chapter and scram. They aren't going to waste any more time to argue with people who just don't see why Bleach is bad. Especially not when they have expressed often very valid reasons elsewhere. People like me aren't going to repeat myself over and over and defend my opinion across forums. That's only for people who really, really do not have anything to do.
Do you know how long have I been reading Bleach? TEN YEARS. I'm fairly certain that most people who dislike it now have read and invested beyond 5 or 6 years of Bleach. It was part of my teenagehood for a long time personally and I have invested heavily in it because I loved it dearly. I owned most volumes in 3 languages that I read: Chinese, Japanese and English because it was fun to imagine those voices in my head via those characters - indeed I genuinely loved Bleach. However, Kubo is not infallible. It's disturbing just how many people think he is flawless. His story is not without potholes; he himself admitted in interviews that he does not plan far ahead in the future when it comes to his story - this is obviously telling us we should not take everything he writes to contain some grand scheme of a plot. Most times they do not make sense - truly I'm annoyed when I see things like, "read it, understand it" because had a reader REALLY, TRULY read Bleach and UNDERSTAND it, they will see that Kubo:
- contradicts himself OFTEN
- writes characters that are inconsistent (Ichigo anyone.)
- does not flesh out his characters' growth (18 months after a timeskip, Ichigo is still whiny, Orihime is still whiny, Rukia is boring, the other shinigamis have become 2D. Due to lack of inner conversations within oneself, lack of conflict or lack of resolution)
- rehash stale ideas
- reuse old scenarios that worked 4 years ago but failed to see that said scenario may not work now
All of those above require extensive examples from various chapters that people like me have had problems with. I'm not going to do that one by one for you - if you really want to know, you would seek information on your own instead of remaining indignant on this forum. Furthermore, I may feel strongly about this manga this week, but tomorrow is another working day and no one, simply no one, is going to defend themselves over and over with some relatively new fans who are so in love with Bleach and refuse to listen to reason. There are other better mangas and happier posts to make. People usually grow weary from arguing and resort to one-liners such as, "Bleach sucks". It's short, precise, and sweet. No accountability needed because no one cares.
If you really want to know elaborately more why Bleach is bad, you don't have to seek direct answers from specific people on MAL. Because not everyone is going to return to this thread to see if anyone responded to their snarks. I just happened to swan by a second time in this thread this week. I usually don't do this. You can go on Google and venture out there and read many essays out there. Now I read Bleach for the sake of seeing how bad Kubo is doing - it doesn't take me 3 minutes to read a chapter, and it doesn't take me 3 minutes to state that I either like it or that I do not like it. But to spend 30 minutes defending my opinion? Why bother? I'm doing this now because specifically, you do not seem to understand it.
If you like Bleach so much, then by all means, just like it. Why hop around getting mad because people don't like it? I don't stress myself over why other people LIKE Bleach when I don't anymore. If I say something critical or negative about Bleach, I'm merely attacking the issue - the manga - not you. So why so serious anyways? I don't have to offer a reason everytime I make a post - is this academia? You gonna give me a grade or something? I am perfectly capable of doing so, but why waste my time every.single.time?
Bottom line, most people who criticised Bleach now used to care about Bleach and loved it dearly. They are disappointed NOT because Kubo didn't give them what they want, but they are disappointed because they have grown BORED with Kubo's repetitive style of bland writing, they are disappointed with his seemingly disinterest in utilising the 902132 characters that he already owns on his plate, they are disappointed that he openly admitted that he does not plan far ahead into the future where his story is concerned - it shows a lack of seriousness in his work (so why should we be serious when he isn't?), he admitted that he writes things ON THE FLY - not implying, but STATING and CONFIRMING that he writes whatever he thinks is cool AT THE MOMENT. According to him, if things don't blend together right now, he will take his time (years, usually) hopping from lotus pads to lotus pads until he finds something which loosely connects the dots to his overall story.
So attacking us? Is just not cool, when we're just attacking THE STORY, NOT YOU.
OH WOW WILL YOU MARRY ME!!!
Ok, I jest, that was just perhaps the most amazing post I have EVER seen on a forum.
I just lower my expectations for manga that aren't good, it makes them more enjoyable, so I have given up on pointing out the wrongs with each chapter, because it's a much shorter list to tell what I found right.
Fact: Bleach is bad.
Fact: I choose to enjoy it.
And there's nothing more to this controversy.
If people are badmouthing Bleach at chapter 463, those same people probably read the 462 earlier chapters, so they must at least at different levels like(d) the series. Let loverz hate.
