Man, I was really liking this chapter until they revealed that Yue had a crush on Negi too. On a more positive note, they've been using the time travel mechanic pretty well, I like how they built to Yue meeting Negi on the third day back during the second day.

It depends. A PLAIN harem/fanservice not so much. But using it as a hook/dressing for a great story like this i'll embrace and have no problem with.

For another example see the High School DxD series (Especially the novels) they are unabashed in their love of fanservice and I love it. However, if that's all it was I would quickly grow bored. I love, among other things, the character development. For example Himejima at one point offers Issei a chance to sleep with her. While at any other point Issei, a shameless pervert would have taken her up on it, in this case he not only turns her down but realizes that do to the emotional trauma she is currently in taking her up on her offer would do her more harm then good in the long run. Said realization is sadly cut from the anime.

I see, I'm pretty averse to fan-service myself so I've avoided High School DxD so it's nice to hear they've got more going on for it (though seemingly less in the anime, which is a shame but not really surprising).

There was also one point where fanservice took away from a dramatic moment in the anime , and in that case I didn't care for it. At the very least you should try reading the light novels. I'd post you a link but that's not allowed. Most of the fanservice there is by description, with only the occasional picture.

I'll add the light novel to my plan to read then I guess. It'll probably take me forever to get around to it though, I barely touch written media like that or even manga. Hence why I'm nearing 300 completed anime but only have 32 or so completed manga (& like, a third of those are just JoJo).

Man, I was really liking this chapter until they revealed that Yue had a crush on Negi too. It's a harem manga, are you honestly surprised? What makes it works in my mind is the different ways they play around withe traditional tropes/cliches. Nodaka, being a shrinking violet is usually the person who you think would be last to confess, instead ends up confessing first. Asuna seems like the traditional Tsundere, but there is just enough ambiguity that you really CAN'T be sure of feelings. I could go on but I do't want to spoil things.

It's not a straight harem though. It also mixes in elements from battle shonen, more & more often as the series progresses (I believe Ken just wanted to do a straight battle shonen but they editors or whatever wanted another harem, so he did this genre shift/mixture instead). & there are a good chunk of characters who don't fall in love with Negi. I don't remember if I was surprised or just disappointed but I can tell you for a fact (& you probably gathered this already) that the harem elements of the series don't work for me. If they work for you, great! I can definitely see your point (though I'm not well-versed in harems, I tend to avoid them like the plague).
