It's great to see how much the Death Note perverted Light's way of thinking about the world. Keeping in mind that this Light is a Light that behaves like he did before finding the death note, we can assume these chapters as being an insight into Light's real personality, which we've seen very little since he gets the notebook on the very first chapter.
It's kind of sad, really.
I will agree, though, that they threw too many characters into our faces with all of this corporation bs. It's still interesting, but up until now the characters were slowly presented to us, and there were always a very few amount of them for us to keep track. Hopefully they're not that important and they're just showing how different humans would/could use the Death Note.
