Hunter x Hunter Chapter 311 Discussion

  • #18
What poison? Why are they cruel again? What? WHAT? How has Hunter x Hunter turned into such a shoddy manga...Why must Togashi do the 'income disparity means everyone should die' song and dance instead of telling a story? What a disappointment . In other news, Bleach was really good this week. I never thought I'd say this, but it was much better than this bunk.

Strange chapter, really confusing. No Gon or Killua, and the King is probably going to die just because of poison. But Togashi is a genius, he managed to show that people are worse creatures than ants.

I must have missed that part. I just saw a person being hid in a box for a while to save the lives of many other people (Wow, that's really cruel) and a bunch of people who are sad (If they're worse than ants, then why should we care?) and then a bunch of people who are happy and apparently not sharing their wealth. OK, fine. If Togashi thinks that being a bleeding heart is more important than storytelling, great. So how about donating some of his own money to a good cause? How about "all the proceeds from manga vol. whatever are going to charity"? He certainly doesn't seem to need the money, given that he can take long breaks whenever he likes. As it is, it just seems like Togashi is trying to reprimand his readers for being wealthy and horrible and buying leisure items like manga.

Whats the matter?  Feeling guilty?

Its because Togashi cares about high quality story telling that he made this chapter the way he did.  Its not about who is "better" humans or ants, Togashi is facing the reader with the reality of human cruelty.  In real life human beings truly are vastly more cruel than any other animal, of course, not everyone is cruel, but some of us are, so what right do we have to judge Chimera ants and call them monsters.  The same goes for judging other countries, ethnicities whatever.  No human being has the right to dehumanize another.  I believe thats part of Togashi's message.  The cruelty he depicted is more than about income inequality, he depicted police brutality, oppression, war on top of the the realities of the rose bomb which is essentially an exagerated nuclear bomb.  I think you've got a lot of nerve making assumption about Togashi's finances.  Do you know how much he gives to charity?  Do you know the people in his family he's supporting?  Do you know how much he works on HxH during these Hiatus?  I don't know the answers to these questions but unless you do I don't think you have any right to criticize him about it.  If he's reprimanding anyone it might have to do with how ethical the practices are of the corporations involved in the manga industry as opposed to individual readers

I think this was a very profound chapter, apparently its gone over a lot of people's heads on MAL, but I for one am truly impressed by it.Thank you! At least one person gets it. I can't believe the simplicity of everyone's comments on here. It's like people just want to read battles and that's all. "Where's my Gon vs the King" "rant, rant." Go read Dragon Ball or Bleach if that's what you want. This is all brilliant story telling and people criticizing it for what reason, because it doesn't follow all of the battle manga cliches.... Ridiculous.

@mrDovydas lol yeah. He did the same thing in Yu Yu Hakusho. Maybe Togashi really believes that humans are cruel in real life and puts it into his work because he did the same thing in Yu Yu saying that humans can be worse than demons in the Sensui arc.

Anyways words can't explain how happy I was when I saw that the chapter was out today. I was more surprised than anything and while I was reading I was like since this arc is ending soon they might start another OVA and what do you know. At the end of the chapter it shows that an anime is coming out. Although I didn't really like this chapter I'm expected good things out of HxH. It's on my top manga list up there will One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist and Bakuman and it's originality and genius is always a plus. Please no more hiatuses and is it just me but I think he should get some assistants so we can see less hiatuses. He isn't getting any younger.

To be fair, though, these comment were when the manga first ran these chapters and they apparently just came off a hiatus. It probably was tough to completely wrap your head around all of this if things aren't fresh on your mind.

Me, though? I think this shit is brilliant. Like Ikalgo (or Palm? I'm not sure) said, "we're cruel you know. No different from the ants. No, even worse!" And, then those panels. Man, good stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to come up with more in the episode discussion, haha.

Man at first I was kind of confused while reading the chapter so I had to go back and read a bunch of chapter that came before this one... anyway it was an ok chapter.. and im not really sad that the king will die soon because the ant arc was the one I liked the least so the fact that it will end does not really annoy me

So wait, what caused that explosion? And why will the king suddenly die of poison now?

It looks as if Togashi is putting a quick end to the Chimera Ant arc, that's what everyone wanted right? So why complaining if the ending isn't very satisfying.

I'm at least glad it's back.

It should've ended with Kurapica vs kumo. Like that with no how gon becomes hunter or whatever.
