Definitely a great fight & a perfect illustration of the power gap between Gon & Hisoka, as well as a way to build anticipation for an eventually rematch.
In conclusion, I didn't love this arc as much as I did in the anime. At least, Madhouse's version. The source material wasn't bad, far from it. Nen is the best battle system that I've seen and I think that's the case at this point already & we've just touched the tip of the iceberg on the juicy parts of it. I love that Nen has building blocks, a foundation outside of just special abilities to derive techniques. People have their distinct abilities but an extra dynamic is added with the inclusion of Zetsu, In, Gyo, etc.
& of course, some awesome moments were included here, Killua's threat to Sadaso, Gon vs. Hisoka, the reveal of Hisoka in the Phantom Troupe, all excellent stuff. The biggest disappointment for me was how Hisoka's method of victory was revealed here but outside of that for the most part, the main reason I prefer the Madhouse version is that it's animated. Probably obvious but the difference in reading the opening segments of Gon vs. Hisoka just does not compare to watching those exchanges. This makes Heaven's Arena the first arc I preferred in the Madhouse adaption.
But not much point in discussing how it compares to Madhouse I guess, especially when I'm trying to be vague about it. This arc is really solid & probably my second favorite so far. I really enjoyed learning more and more about Nen as the arc progresses & most of the fights have at least a cool moment in them. Both of Hisoka's battles are within my favorites of the series & the relationship between Gon & Killua is always a joy to see. I don't particularly find the antagonists outside of Hisoka to be interesting but they serve their purpose fine so its not a huge deal.
Pumped for Yorknew. I ordered all the volumes covering Yorknew on Amazon not too long ago & once I get them, I'm going to blast right through them.
