This is the second time Takasugi stabbed himself. Once to extend his life, and once to end it. This is also the second time Gintoki shed a tear. Once when he sacrificed his master and once when he sacrificed his comrade.
I wanna call this chapter bittersweet, but it's just too bitter for me. For Gintoki to save his comrades in exchange for his master, only to sacrifice his comrade for the sake of his master. Takasugi was destined to die, since Oboro's remains only extended his life. But still, this is just really fucking sad. We never did get a moment of Takasugi relaxing and spending time with his old comrades. The last thing Takasugi with his left eye was Gintoki crying, and the last thing he saw with his right eye was Gintoki smiling back at him.
Also, this is just too much T_T
Shinpachi talking with Shoyo-sensei is something I'd never imagine would be a thing in Gintama, but I guess it is now. In some ways, it's feels a bit weird just because of how they don't know each other, yet they kinda understand each other. They both depended on Gintoki after all. Shinpachi's grateful for Shoyo raising Gintoki, but I'm pretty sure Shoyo's grateful for the Yorozuya being there for Gintoki when he was all alone post-Joui war. But I wonder if Shoyo will really make it out alive, or if he'll end up sacrificing himself in one way. Sigh, I wouldn't be surprised if the stupid gorilla wants to make this any more depressing, but I really think the final chapter will serve as an epilogue with some sort of short timeskip.
There's certain chapters and episodes of Gintama I don't like rereading or rewatching because I don't enjoy crippling depression. This is now one of them.
