I’m so confused about how no one has ever criticized the ending of this match in this forum…
Shohoku goes up 62-60 against a national powerhouse but Sakuragi fouls out with 1:50 left and now they’re missing 2 of their starters. All of their subs are very short and not shown to be very talented, while the largest emphasis of this match has been how overwhelmingly tall the other team is. Moreover, in the 2nd half they have completely relied on Sakuragi for rebounding. With 2 starters out and shorter, weaker defenders in their place, you would think that defending a 2 point lead for the last 1:50 would be incredibly difficult…
Nope. We just get a single page saying that Shohoku somehow completely forced Shoyo out and not a single team scored in the last 1:50. SHOW ME THAT! If they really did that, that would be so impressive to actually see.
This ending is not only underwhelming, it’s honestly unbelievable too. Shoyo didn’t exploit their even greater height advantage? Shohoku didn’t struggle to even get back on offense due to their lost rebounding presence? Neither Fujima nor Rukawa stepped up to score an extra basket on their own, like we’ve seen them do time and time again? Not to mention the intentional fouling that happens by the losing team at the end of a narrow, close game for more scoring opportunities. It is frankly inconceivable that neither of these teams would score for the last 1:50.
