Magdalene woke up as Pandemonium and mocked Aion and that's why he spoke to her, probably as Pandemonium while choking her. He asked her what she knew, and if she had reached 'the sacred religion'. Her ability to know all that will occur and potentially all that has occurred allowed Pandemonium to latch onto her and in a way download all its memories into her. The head of Pandemonium seems like it can be anyone rather than something specific, Pandemonium is defined by its memories and ideas more than an actual presence, or so it seems. So it completely possessed her briefly due to that, and the longer it stays inside the more she'll become. Pandemonium is such an abstract concept.
Magdalene's awful ability to see everything at once not only lead her to lack an identity of her own, but also to see all the horrors of the world. That must have broken her. It was remincent of
Murota the boxer from Yuyu Hakusho who could read thoughts and how the overflow of thoughts lead him to immense pain and constant noise. It's also reminiscent to the way Joshua can hear peoples thoughts or whatever it is that he does which causes him to scream for the noise in his head to go away. This also goes to show why she went with Chrno and always wanted to since 'before she could speak words'. He is all she knows, without Chrno there is no Magdalene. He is the only truth she has. This may be the meaning behind her not wanting to play her role as a religious prophet as it goes against herself, herself being the premonition of dying by the hands of demons. All she knows goes against what people want from her, somewhat alike how she predicts Chrno doesn't want to be the sword Aion is telling him to be.
Last little piece of information is that we know why Genai wears the outfit he does. Pandemonium's attacks cause necrosis which is permanent injuries in demons.
