Eh see I don't think people blame Chiaki for not responding to Nodame's proposal. Even Nodame said herself that she didn't know why she asked him.
But here's the thing. Chiaki has NEVER told Nodame he loves her! Remember when she threw her arms around him and asked if he loved her? He still hasn't answered. I think what Nodame wants is for him to let her know she's important to him, because how is she supposed to know if he never says it? And this is materialized in his trivializing of her dream to perform a concerto with him. His ignoring her dream translates to his ignoring her love - I believe that's how Nodame sees it, which is why she becomes the most depressed when it has anything to do with Rie or concertos in general.
It's come to the point of no return or it's awfully close. Either Chiaki has to act or he's going to lose her, because I think Nodame is finally getting tired of loving him without any response of love in return.
I fully agree with that.. I know Nodame's proposal was quite a shock for everyone, but he's never said anything about how he feels about Nodame. Also in Paris (especially after the first kiss) he didn't get irritated or started denying when people called Nodame his girlfriend. Maybe he just got tired of it, but I think it's not that. But after kissing her for.. 3 times (I think) he's still said nothing and continues denying his feelings. I don't get it.
Also.. a lot of people here were saying that Chiaki really loves Nodame.. But are you sure of that? Chiaki's crazy about music. What if he just loves music in Nodame, not Nodame herself? That's why Franz told him to make a distinction - music or a relationship. Well... after his words Chiaki kissed Nodame.. I guess he made a choice, but sometimes I feel as if he's more worried about her playing rather than herself.
What if Nodame doesn't need him anymore? Remember, on the first page of one the latest chapters it was written something like "I've come this far without him. I don't need him anymore". What if she also loved him playing, his music, his passion and not himself?
All I know is that if Chiaki doesn't go after her right now, she'll never come back, because it's Nodame. She tried hard, and it looks like it's hurting her, I highly doubt she could return to playing like that again, if Chiaki leaves her. And that idiot can easily choose work over her.. But I hope this time it won't be like that.
Cheesy happy-endings are boring, but I always wish for the characters to be happy, so maybe a happy-end is not a bad thing.. "Nodame Cantabile" is already a great masterpiece.
