the only real scary part was the first chapter with the stpry of shuichis dads obsession with spirals and how that obsession grew to lead him to start the curse again for the town

The people transforming into snails was the most disturbing part of the manga.

If the people here complain about the ending they should read some of other works Ito Junji has done, they all have a episodic feeling to them and never really get a explanation, more like a urban legend but they all work

The snail people were the most disturbing thing that the mangaka could have ever imagined.  Thank god the couple turned into the sea serpent over those disgusting things.

Creepy, cringe-worthy, and disturbing manga.

Ach, it was okay. Not as good as I'd hoped though.

Amazing manga. I was really into the horror aspect of this manga for the early parts but later on I started to prefer the comedy.

I thought the ending wasn't tragic at all. I mean, they did mention these paranormal activities happen every hundreds or thousands of years so it's more like the nature is eliminating humanity in much more weirder fashion. However, the end did felt rushed, especially with how Kirie left her brother and promised to return back. I mean come on Ito-sensei! Making a "cliffhanger" into a literal punchline is taking it too far!

I also really liked the ending. The mysteries are a big thing to bear, and is quite bothering, though. The structures have that futuristic and mechanical feel to it, and that showed clearly at the ending. It hints that aliens built it. But, I thought Shuichi or Kiries ancestors, shamans, casted a curse over the city, and that it would have some kind of magical ending where Shuichi would have to perform a sacrifice to save her and the city.

It's bothering me, that this will happen indefinitely and forever. I guess not, Uzumaki! I'm dying to see the curse trying to bugger the humans from thousands of years in the future, with their cosmic weapons and ultra intelligence. So it's a fake Uzumaki, ha! Take this name, sucker, you deserve it. This city went through hell.

The position Shuichi and kirie ended at is very "romantic".
