I wasn't thinking "Yuki is the transvestite, Mako is homosexual, Nitori is the cross dresser, and Takatsuki is the tomboy."  Rather than focusing on what they were, the story brought out the best of who they were.

Yuki is transsexual not a transvestite. Mako-chan and Shuu are transgender. They clearly came out and said so.

to be totally honest though that was a pretty weak ending i think

+1

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I can definitely say this wasn't it. I still find this manga really special and while I was reading it I found it amazing, but the ending could have been a lot better.

I liked how it ended for Nitori, but I'm really disappointed with Takatsuki development.

I still don't get what was the point of having Saori date the church idiot, it served no purpose at all.

Finished the manga!

There were several points in the manga where the plot was trudging along rather slowly and I was tempted to stop reading.  I'm definitely glad I didn't stop.

The Takatsuki side of the story is a definitely a bit tragic.  With the story mainly told from Nitori's perspective, she was always the idealized character for the majority of the story.  And although I wouldn't call it a downfall, the flow of time definitely shifted things a bit.  Nitori's story was fantastic.  It was a compelling coming-of-age story with a twist, and perhaps one of the greatest developments I've seen in a character.

All the characters were great, but I have to do a shout-out to Anna,  Sasa, and Yuki for being awesome.  Also, big awards to Doi and Saori for starting out as absolute bitches, but becoming better over time.

I just finished the last chapter and I'm just so sad that it's all over T. T ;_ ;

I was sad before it even ended because I knew it was going to D:

I wouldn't have guessed the manga goes so far in their lives after watching the

anime, and I picked up the manga to read about the time before the events in

the anime, so I wasn't expecting much from the after-anime-events-part as I tought

it'd be just very sad and everything would go downhill from there onvard due to them

growing and separating but I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the latter part of the manga a lot! The older Shuu was really cool. It was still very sad though xP

I think the ending was pretty good even though it left me with some questions etc. It was definately deep I think; not the typical "and they lived happily ever after"-kind of ending.

I wasn't going to contribute to this discussion, but since I spent my time reading all 123 chapters I might as well write out my thoughts. I was majorly disappointed with the ending, to me it felt like the author was told she had to end the manga and she just said "f it" and gave us THIS for an ending. I feel like all of the character development amassed to nothing.

Some things that particularly irritated me was the fact that Nitori was the one who decided to transition in the end rather than Yoshino. In the way I interpreted things, I would've thought it would be the opposite outcome. One of the reasons I thought this was because Yoshino had always openly presented themselves as masculine (although it is easier for a girl to wear masculine attire rather than a male in female attire), and Nitori was less confident going out in female clothes. Most importantly though was how Nitori was evidently comfortable with his body and genitals, talking about how much he loves masturbation at the end, which is nonsensical if he really has gender dysphoria.

Also, although I understand in a way since they were together for so long, it feels almost lazy to me that Anna ended up with Nitori. She had broken up with him once because he wasn't 'manly' while he was in middle school* (I believe), so it's saddening that instead of coming up with a new pairing Nitori might've had a brighter future with it just stayed the same with Anna and Nitori. I can view them as friends, but nothing more. I just don't see it.
