Fairy Tail Chapter 524 Discussion

It was oddly satisfying seeing Acnologia stomping on Irene's body. She was a shitty villain who didn't even come close to living up to her hype.

August, however, is living up to his hype, but knowing Mashima, that could easily change out of nowhere so I need to keep my guard up. I have a feeling he'll "kill" Cana, Gildarts will go crazy and defeat him, and then Cana will somehow come back to life or it'll turn out she was never dead in the first place. Or he'll just be defeated before he can do anything to Cana.

I'm honestly sick of Cana using fairy glitter and it doing nothing, like Hiro let it work for once and do some actual damage. August will probably be a disappointment as Hiro has hyped him up too much.

Time for acnologia to get one shotted by the power of friendship :)

Decent chapter. 4/5. Also August was a nice guy hope he suddenly does not become evil out of nowhere just so we can see how op gildarts is.

somehow my old comment doesn't get displayed. w/e

Slow chapter for the past few week, hardly anything happened.

Hiro is really dragging this arc for as long as he could..

which one is the greater danger in this series?

is it zeref?

or acno?

neither Zeref or Acno are greater danger in this series because Erza is already transcendent both of them LOL

Well that was a good chapter, not much happened but still enjoyable.

Acnologia beat the crap out of Irene's corpse. It would be more impact full if Irene was still you know alive. What Hrio should have done is have Irene still clinging to her life, about to tell Erza some goodbye message and that is when Acnologia shows up and kills her. I am just saying, it would make him look more of a evil baster.

Natsu and Zeref exchange blows nothing happens there.

Moving on, Cana stepping up and using Fairy Glitter, just picked the wrong opponent, because August is not having that. Well at least try, which is more than I can say for other characters cough Rebeca from One Piece cough, so Gildarts is pissed, and August is acting like he is some alien or robot trying to comprehend human emotions.

Next chapter has me confused, does is mean August is another one of Zeref's sons, how many kids does this guy have?

That's one of the reason why I was never enthralled by Fairy Tail. Mashima is decent in terms of choregraphy - although he heavily rests on his laurels - but when it comes to impact and paneling it's atrociously bland. Strategy being almost always an afterthought doesn't help.

Since August in the only Spriggan Twelve  left it's hard not to sigh thinking how disappointing they were, be it in power or personality. Mashima is even worse at writing villains than he is at writing main characters.

Strategy isn´t a deal breaker. Bleach barely had ever Strategy and One Piece also rarely utilizes it. I agree on your other points. Had to look up the definition of paneling and this is actually the answer for me.

To give an example. Oda puts alot of text into his panels and while you´re reading through them you are fed bits and pieces of sometimes valueable and sometimes enjoyable information, like comedy. Naruto on the other hand utilizes less text, but better angles. The action feels vibrant almost animated during it´s best sequences.

HxH cheats through his atrocious art by putting in a plethora of text that it´s more akin to reading a book, but nonetheless the reader is being occupied.

Strategy has nothing to do with it. It just lacks details  in the backround or the characters movement you´ll notice while reading and when he takes away all the text there is nothing left. You just click through them.

I have read several Naruto chapters and had to reread the same page multiple times to actually understand the full extend of every detail of information that´s been communicated through the panels.

This on the other hand is just Character A punches character B, Character B blocks and punches Character A who blocks now and throws him. There is no flavor to be found, no creativity.

It´s like watching  a boxing match between two inexperienced fighters , though I´ve gotta give them the edge due to being real and therefore animated.

I didn't outright say that the absence of strategy was a dealbreaker, rather in a manga where fights are far from captivating visually speaking such as Fairy Tail, having some depth and method to them wouldn't hurt. You can draw battles where the characters simply beat the crap out of each other and it can still be fascinating, but that would require actual paneling skills, which FT doesn't have.

Nice Cana cover image. Oof! Acnologia stomping Irene's corpse gleefully, brutal stuff. Well, Natsu's begun his rematch against Zeref. Cana goin' all out with that Fairy Glitter, and August is after her, putting Gildarts in a...shocking situation.
