The chapter ranged from OK to great, but those last two pages completely ruined it -_-

Because it makes so much more sense to let the guy who can instakill everyone get anywhere near his precious people doesn't it?

No, because the very rules of narrative already tell us that what Natsu did at the end is completely pointless. The whole exchange is pointless because Natsu WILL lose, and all that we can hope for is some sort of new information about Zeref and him or something.

Also because it feels very much like a rehash of Tartaros where Natsu also rushed into the base only to get oneshotted by Silver.

Also because it presents the possibility of typical "rescue arc" where FT Guild has to travel to Zeref's location to free  Natsu as Mashima's cop out from showing actual large scale war with consequences going on.

I'd rather they focus on w hat is actually interesting(The actual war, Lucy's backstory, etc) than on an obligatory "one loss per arc" for Natsu thing.

See that's your problem. You're not looking at it from HIS perspective. You're looking at this from a metaknowledge point of view.

Zeref is in charge of the enemy. Zeref has the deathwave that can kill anyone except Natsu on the first try since he has the scarf. Going for the head of the snake makes perfect sense from Natsu's perspective especially given his bandaged one time move.

What is Natsu's primary directive? How is that directive best achieved if you only knew what he knew?

The answer to these questions is exactly what he did.

Just because it makes sense character-wise, does not mean it is good for the story or is promising for the future developments.

Erza defeating every single opponent because She's Erza is also perfectly in character for Erza. Does not make it a good direction.

I have no problems with how in character it is. I have problems with where in the story it leads and the ultimate futility of it.

Not to mention the lack of any threat, because obviously they will not just off Natsu and obviously he will lose. Literally the only hope for it is some sort of backstory revelation/development for Zeref/Natsu thing.

Which is likely what will happen if not the big awakening as End and the subsequent trashing of Gray and others.

I agree in the view that this is probably the awakening of E.N.D. At this moment in time, it seems the most probable result, though something will trigger the change in Natsu. I'm still leaning towards Natsu actually wasting his final attack which defeats one or more of the twelve but not Zeref. I feel that Gildartz might be there, save Natsu but dies, which in turn could be part of a trigger for the change to E.N.D.

Natsu rushing into enemy base to take the head of the general, (or cut off the head of the snake so to speak) is truly keeping consistent with his character. Natsu is not stupid, just simple-minded and confident with his ability. I don't believe it is a selfish thing that Natsu rushed of to the enemy base. Since Mavis, the 'Fairy Tactician', well she hasn't been that useful in this war. She made a plan where Fairy Tail went against the whole Alvarez Empire alone, since she didn't want to involve the other guilds, believing it was Fairy Tail's battle alone, since the enemy is after Fairy Heart. Frankly speaking the whole of Ishgar is quite outmatched against the Alvarez Empire from what we come to known, since supposedly the No.1 mage in Ishgar, God Serena, joined Alvarez.

What Natsu is trying to do is to end the war with the fewest casualties, in a sense, he is the only one that can stop Zeref, other than maybe Acnologia.

Btw 'Erza defeating every single opponent because She's Erza' isn't actually part of her character, it's just the consequence of what has happened. That is not too reasonable to compare to Natsu in my opinion, when he charges in.

What Natsu does isn't actually pointless, and doesn't make it redundant, since I feel it will actually make the  whole story clearer, with the bigger picture shown. I'm actually not disappointed with the last 2 pages and more so pleased. As the story seems to be advancing better. I'd be interested to see what Hiro does with the next few chapters, as it'll explain how he is going to write the rest of this arc. I'm interested to see if I'll be disappointed or pleased. If Natsu just goes to Zeref just to be defeated without any progress to the storyline, then I'll be disappointed, but I believe in Hiro.

I enjoy Hiro's works, up until a while ago, I still preferred Rave Master over Fairy Tail, midway through Tartaros arc, i had a change of heart.

Anyhow Strategy-wise, Mavis has been off-point uncharacteristically from the beginning of this arc. Though after the other guilds joined in, it seems a bit better organised.

N.B. Remember we don't know the extent of everyone's training over the time-skip, and how strong they became. And also Natsu and the others have been trying to save up energy while fighting the small fries. There are still many enemies left, so instead of being whittled down, power-wise and stamina-wise, Natsu is betting on everything to go at full power to attempt to end the war by beating Zeref. Ishgar is outnumbered as it is, and their stamina is going down slowly when the main boss and mini-boss haven't even reached them yet.

So....Natsu's just charging in...straight to Zeref....half expecting Gildarts to come in and save him, I'm hoping for a post timeskip Natsu ass beating, dude's been too invincible lately.

I feel bad for Freed, Evergreen and Bickslow, they're just too good at getting K.O.'d in the beginning of an arc.

Now did I miss something, or is Quatro just kinda out of this war? Seriously, I get that only Bacchus would be able to do anything and even then probably not much, but still, where'd they go?

Didn't we see Bacchus when we saw panel of other guilds showing up to help FT?

As for people talking about the 4 Ishar Gods, there are only 3, so far Jura has not been mentioned to be on the same level... I am guessing Serena will stomp them, but we'll see.

Yeah, we saw Bacchus and the main squad of Quatro Cerberus, but I just found it weird they were absent this chapter. Like what, are they not going anywhere?

Probably headquarter ( Fairy tail's guild building )?

possibility of them helping cana and lucy later

Everything is going exactly along Zeref's plan

Seems all according to plan by Zeref. Natsu going haywire again without the guild knowing is all to easy to predict.

What separates FT from the other big shonen series is that no one of importance dies in a big "fight" or "war" (Tartaros and Current arcs). But I think its finally time for someone to dies in this arc. I can feel it. . .

Brandish is sexy as hell too bad she has green hair.
