The chapter ranged from OK to great, but those last two pages completely ruined it -_-

Because it makes so much more sense to let the guy who can instakill everyone get anywhere near his precious people doesn't it?

No, because the very rules of narrative already tell us that what Natsu did at the end is completely pointless. The whole exchange is pointless because Natsu WILL lose, and all that we can hope for is some sort of new information about Zeref and him or something.

Also because it feels very much like a rehash of Tartaros where Natsu also rushed into the base only to get oneshotted by Silver.

Also because it presents the possibility of typical "rescue arc" where FT Guild has to travel to Zeref's location to free  Natsu as Mashima's cop out from showing actual large scale war with consequences going on.

I'd rather they focus on w hat is actually interesting(The actual war, Lucy's backstory, etc) than on an obligatory "one loss per arc" for Natsu thing.

See that's your problem. You're not looking at it from HIS perspective. You're looking at this from a metaknowledge point of view.

Zeref is in charge of the enemy. Zeref has the deathwave that can kill anyone except Natsu on the first try since he has the scarf. Going for the head of the snake makes perfect sense from Natsu's perspective especially given his bandaged one time move.

What is Natsu's primary directive? How is that directive best achieved if you only knew what he knew?

The answer to these questions is exactly what he did.

Lets say the last two pages didn't show Natsu and instead focused on everyone else. And lets say that the focus stays on the more interesting things. So then the next time we see Natsu he would already be at Zeref or already crushed. Since again it is perfectly in Natsu's character and persona to do what he did given his primary objectives.

Just because it makes sense character-wise, does not mean it is good for the story or is promising for the future developments.

Erza defeating every single opponent because She's Erza is also perfectly in character for Erza. Does not make it a good direction.

I have no problems with how in character it is. I have problems with where in the story it leads and the ultimate futility of it.

Not to mention the lack of any threat, because obviously they will not just off Natsu and obviously he will lose. Literally the only hope for it is some sort of backstory revelation/development for Zeref/Natsu thing.

Which is likely what will happen if not the big awakening as End and the subsequent trashing of Gray and others.

You see, I have the problem with the idea of an "evil persona" too.

Story wise it would have been so much more interesting if END and Natsu were completely the same, especially considering Gray's vendetta.

"It would be a bore if you couldn't manage at least this much, Mavis."

This was quite literally the most ironic sentence, since Mavis is pretty much useless at strategies and had no idea about Brandish and her original plan about Azir was Natsu, Gajeel and Wendy on a vehicle, which obviously failed and somehow Erza came and won.

What if Happy gets the deathflag? I mean, Natsu could not protect him against that size of an army...

Maybe Zeref will probably "give him more despair" than he'll ever receive back at Tartaros O_O

Fiore's strongest force?! Where is Gildarts?! :O I only see old men...

Gildarts probably gonna appear to save Natsu's ass...

So....Natsu's just charging in...straight to Zeref....half expecting Gildarts to come in and save him, I'm hoping for a post timeskip Natsu ass beating, dude's been too invincible lately.

I feel bad for Freed, Evergreen and Bickslow, they're just too good at getting K.O.'d in the beginning of an arc.

Now did I miss something, or is Quatro just kinda out of this war? Seriously, I get that only Bacchus would be able to do anything and even then probably not much, but still, where'd they go?

Didn't we see Bacchus when we saw panel of other guilds showing up to help FT?

As for people talking about the 4 Ishar Gods, there are only 3, so far Jura has not been mentioned to be on the same level... I am guessing Serena will stomp them, but we'll see.
