So, I re-read VK again from the beginning... partly because of the last few chapters, and partly because of the upcoming anime.
When you think about it, it's no wonder that the story seems bloody confusing... I mean, the chapters only come out once a month, so the current arc has taken like half a year - even though it's only 6 chapters.
Before I begin though, I wanted to comment on what Saeai wrote. In regards to no one being surprised: I think part of this is to do with the fact that she is a pureblood - no one questions purebloods. Another part of it, I think, is that this is almost easier for them to accept than Kaname feeling such affection towards a human. In fact, they're probably almost relieved. We see Aidou's reaction (keeps calling her Kurosu Yuuki xD ... so bad, Aidou-senpai :P) and we also see Ruka's reaction. Those were the only two that really mattered. Kain is indifferent to most things; and Shiki, Takuma, and Rima are all focused on the stuff with Rido.
So, my theories:
- Rido wants to drink the purest, thickest Kuran blood he can get his hands on. The Kurans are decendants from the first vampires, and were the kings of the vampires before the council was established. Although he is also a Kuran, if he can have the best Kuran blood, he will definitely be the most powerful.
- Rido killed Haruka and Juuri's first child, but I don't know whether he actually killed the child, or not. I'm wondering if he didn't use the child's body to revive Kaname - the Kuran ancestor - and replaced the soul like how both Shizuka and Rido have done. However, then the original child would be sleeping, so maybe not. All I know, is that's the only way I can see how Kaname would be a child growing up, rather than a crazily old man. Anyway, this is a theory, and not based on anything I can read.
- The council is supporting Rido because they want to be the most powerful, and by helping Rido become the most powerful, they believe they can be as well. Haruka and Juuri wanted nothing to do with the council. They used the council to lock Rido away after the loss of their first child, but this is likely when the council and Rido's bond grew. They also likely knew this would happen, they just wanted Rido out of their sight - likely so they could have and hide Yuuki in secret.
- However, Rido knew about Yuuki, and with the help of the council, went to go and get her (to get her blood). He knew Kaname could not oppose him, so all he had to do was defeat Haruka and Juuri.
- Well, what do you know, he brings a fancy hunter's sword with him, critically injuring Haruka (that he can't recover from) and the sword moves to his heart and he dies. This is probably a large reason why Kaname continually says he hates the hunter's weapons.
- But how did Rido get the sword? From the hunter's association! We can see now that the hunter's president and the council's president (Takuma's grandfather, Iichou) are in cahoots! They likely have some sort of agreement to help Rido, and then they can govern and control the whole world - hunters, vampires, and humans alike.
- The only hunters they are concerned about ruining their plans are Zero and the chairman. But the hunter's assoc. president says, "Even though he's lived longer than me, he is still just a kid. He will never get the answers he is looking for." So she figures the chairman isn't a threat, leaves him, figures Zero is, so locks him up.
What I want to know now is:
- what is going to become the significance of Zero and Ichiru not killing eachother in the womb? What is the fabled legend of the hunter twins?
- what is the chairman searching for? We know it's got something to do with Juuri, as he's said her name before and thought about her. It's probably got something to do with what made him a pacifist. Did he love a vampire? (probably the most typical xD)
- is Yuuki gonna choose Zero or Kaname? (I'm rooting for Kaname xD)
- how is our beloved Kaname gonna get us out of this mess?? xP
Anyway, I hope this helps more :)
