Vampire Knight Chapter 38 Discussion

  • #2
i've been confused the last 8 chapters so it was only a given that  i was confused this chapter as well. I feel like the plot is so complicated that things just arent really clear to me. If only there were like... sparknotes for vampire knight HAHA.

anyway, i'm upset that zero is in jail! didnt the lady tell him to drink pureblood blood?!! why would she all of a sudden say "he wont listen to me" i didnt think she specifically told him to do something.

ohman. i'm defenitely going to have to reread these chapters at some point so i can get a grasp of whats going on. i feel like the characters just look too similar that i get confused about who is who and how they connect to eachother.

hmmm i just thought something... the reason why kaname couldnt kill ride because rido is the "master" that awaken kaname.... now, kaname awaken rido, doesnt that mean that kaname is the master of rido? hehehhehehe.. just wondering....

So, I re-read VK again from the beginning... partly because of the last few chapters, and partly because of the upcoming anime.

When you think about it, it's no wonder that the story seems bloody confusing... I mean, the chapters only come out once a month, so the current arc has taken like half a year - even though it's only 6 chapters.

Before I begin though, I wanted to comment on what Saeai wrote.  In regards to no one being surprised: I think part of this is to do with the fact that she is a pureblood - no one questions purebloods.  Another part of it, I think, is that this is almost easier for them to accept than Kaname feeling such affection towards a human.  In fact, they're probably almost relieved.  We see Aidou's reaction (keeps calling her Kurosu Yuuki xD  ... so bad, Aidou-senpai :P) and we also see Ruka's reaction.  Those were the only two that really mattered.  Kain is indifferent to most things; and Shiki, Takuma, and Rima are all focused on the stuff with Rido.

So, my theories:

- Rido wants to drink the purest, thickest Kuran blood he can get his hands on.  The Kurans are decendants from the first vampires, and were the kings of the vampires before the council was established.  Although he is also a Kuran, if he can have the best Kuran blood, he will definitely be the most powerful.

- Rido killed Haruka and Juuri's first child, but I don't know whether he actually killed the child, or not.  I'm wondering if he didn't use the child's body to revive Kaname - the Kuran ancestor - and replaced the soul like how both Shizuka and Rido have done.  However, then the original child would be sleeping, so maybe not.  All I know, is that's the only way I can see how Kaname would be a child growing up, rather than a crazily old man.  Anyway, this is a theory, and not based on anything I can read.

- The council is supporting Rido because they want to be the most powerful, and by helping Rido become the most powerful, they believe they can be as well.  Haruka and Juuri wanted nothing to do with the council.  They used the council to lock Rido away after the loss of their first child, but this is likely when the council and Rido's bond grew.  They also likely knew this would happen, they just wanted Rido out of their sight - likely so they could have and hide Yuuki in secret.

- However, Rido knew about Yuuki, and with the help of the council, went to go and get her (to get her blood).  He knew Kaname could not oppose him, so all he had to do was defeat Haruka and Juuri.

- Well, what do you know, he brings a fancy hunter's sword with him, critically injuring Haruka (that he can't recover from) and the sword moves to his heart and he dies.  This is probably a large reason why Kaname continually says he hates the hunter's weapons.

- But how did Rido get the sword?  From the hunter's association!  We can see now that the hunter's president and the council's president (Takuma's grandfather, Iichou) are in cahoots!  They likely have some sort of agreement to help Rido, and then they can govern and control the whole world - hunters, vampires, and humans alike.

- The only hunters they are concerned about ruining their plans are Zero and  the chairman.  But the hunter's assoc. president says, "Even though he's lived longer than me, he is still just a kid.  He will never get the answers he is looking for."  So she figures the chairman isn't a threat, leaves him, figures Zero is, so locks him up.

What I want to know now is:

- what is going to become the significance of Zero and Ichiru not killing eachother in the womb?  What is the fabled legend of the hunter twins?

- what is the chairman searching for?  We know it's got something to do with Juuri, as he's said her name before and thought about her.  It's probably got something to do with what made him a pacifist.  Did he love a vampire?  (probably the most typical xD)

- is Yuuki gonna choose Zero or Kaname?  (I'm rooting for Kaname xD)

- how is our beloved Kaname gonna get us out of this mess?? xP

Anyway, I hope this helps more :)

Maybe it was the quality of the translation but I'm beginning to lose grasp of the plot. It's good that VK has a lot of mystery, it's cool. But it's just getting too much now.

Answers and Corrections! Yorokonde (Rejoice!)

Zero: Will turn into a level E either way. The blood of the purebloods acts only as a supressor for the symptoms of turning into a level E vampire, it does not stop the transformation process itself. As Kaname said, his blood can prevent him from turning into a level E only for a while. He would need her blood on regular basis and even then, It would only distance the inevitable for a while. Not even mentioning that sucking the blood of a pureblood vampire is considered a grave sin amongst vampires... So let's asume Yuuki would agree to such a ridiculous thing. In that case Zero would be killed by other vampires anyway and furthermore Yuuki would get imprisoned like Shizuka for allowing him to suck her blood, which would be unforgivable, and definetly not something any man who truly loves a woman would do to her (which is, in this case a questionable issue, for none of the two have shown any signs of mutual attraction to each other.)

And btw: She's not Kaname's sister. She's just his stepsister.

Now to the answers: Yes, manga is not finished yet. It is being published monthly, and so far the scanlations have successfuly managed to keep up with the releases, which basically means that we get to read a new chapter at least once a month. Current available chapter is 39.

Yuuki's hair has grown after the transformation into a vampire. As for the reason, no one really knows, but considering all the happenings in the manga, I'd say that the reason itself would be more of a psychological issue of showing readers the fact, that "Yuuki is not the same she was as a human anymore". Although there may be many different meanings to it, the only real fact is, that it was a side-effect of her transformation, and as we could see in the recent chapters, Yuuki's vampire-side has been sealed while she had a long hair, so maybe her body after transformation tried to look like what she did when she was still a vampire years ago...

Kaname vs. Rido : That is a questionable issue. Considering the facts shown in chapter 39, I'd assume that he can not, but it's not for sure...

Yes, Yuuki does have the power of purebloods. This can be proved by the scene, where she sucked Kaname's blood and afterwards, had problems adjusting and controling her new powers. Also, all of her senses are unusually sharp now.

Zero: She's just pitying him. Considering the fact that they share the same bond a real siblings do, and the fact that they were always together since the chairman brought him into their family, one can not help but pity him with her disposition. As for love, it'd be really weird. She never viewed Zero as a potential mate in the first place, for that position was always reserved to Kaname only. It was that way a priori Zero came and it is going to be that way after he's gone.

There is an updated, better translated manga available for chapter 38 on manga traders. It makes the story a bit easier to understand. :)
