If Thorfinn would just beat Ivar up...
He needs ppl to start respecting him, and the only way to get the respect of northmen is through a show of strength.
You are literally advocating for perpetuating the cycle of violence that the series preaches against
The series never preached against anything. It's simply portraying a character who is against violence and throwing him in the most violent period of humanity. I don't think you understand that fiction isn't supposed to preach anything.
And besides, a duel between the two wouldn't result in any harm. Thorfinn can just block all of Ivar's attacks. That would be enough for the northmen to respect him.
Did you just say fictional stories don’t have themes or morals the author is trying to communicate??? 😂😂😂 what??? 🤦🏼 so Breaking Bad is just about some guy who cooks meth and Berserk is just about an angry guy named Guts? There are no themes that the writers intended for you to take away from their stories?
And first you said Thorfinn should beat him up now you’re saying he should just block his attacks. Which is it.
I think you are very confused
Messages are a very important point of storytelling, however they're not always the focus. The main focus of storytelling is always a realistic portrayal rather than a strong message. This is a seinen story not a children's fable.
And I was just voicing my annoyance in my OP. My first reaction to the chapter was "Thorfinn should beat him up", but if you read further you'd see that I also said "show of strength", which could be many things, not just a one sided beat up.
I’m sorry but that is a fundamental misunderstanding of storytelling. You are objectively incorrect if you think what the story is trying to communicate is an afterthought compared to plot and consistency. Vinland Saga is fundamentally about breaking cycles of hatred and violence (among other things as well) and to have Thorfinn “beat Ivar up” would run counter to it.
Also, seinen all have themes integral to the story. Berserk, Ping Pong, Vinland Saga, etc are all very intentional. If you take every story at face value and just look at what happens page to page with no thought about WHY things are happening and what the author is trying to say, you are fundamentally not understanding the story.
