Great chapter, loved the family panel of Thorfinn and finally we heading to  VINLAND!!! I liked the Eastern Expedition arc, seeing how much Thorfinn has grown and changed from his past self, how being a pacifist is really hard and exhausting and it may not always work and Thorfinn's past still catcching up to him even though he wants to move on

Great chapter, but I'm a little disappointed there was a timeskip

The journey to Constantinople and the discovery of the city could have been fascinating

If Rus and Eastern Roman Empire really get entirely skipped or we only get a flashback just glossing over it I think I am gonna lose the will to follow the manga. I am already kinda losing it just by thinking about it.You are reading VINLAND saga, I mean Vinland is the important place to go

Then why did we spend 54 chapters going around England exploring Askeladd's character? Why did we spend another ~50 chapters with Thorfinn on the farm? Why did we spend years reading relatively medicore Baltic Sea War? I know! If it's called Vinland Saga then we should've started in Vinland in the very first chapter.

Journey to Constantinople and selling those narwhal horns is actually the most relevant thing to the actual journey to Vinland in the entire story so far.

'Promising' Rus and Constantinople and then skipping it makes no sense. How can travelling big chunk of the known world, meeting lots of different cultures, peoples and relegions, and finally reaching "the City of Emperors", "The Qeen of all Cities", "Miklagard" or simply "Constantinople" be irrelevant? Visiting Constantinople should be one of the biggest, if not the biggest, event of anyone's life at the time, especially for a barbarian from Northern European wastes.

That journey and event should have tromendous impact on anyone's character and simply skipping such development is simply stupid. That's why I hope Yukimura doesn't do that and shows us the journey in a long flashback arc.the prologue arc was to set thofinn background and make he see how the world work, askeladd teach him how to live and survive, canute is introduced and become the king at the end,in the farm arc thorfinn goes through massive character development and find a reason to live, then he find new companions, baltic war arc was to close Floki character, close thorfinn relation with jomsborg and for thorfinn and sigurd development, and it was very good, better than prologue arc that became great at chapter 30,now it's time for Vinland, another 50 chapters for the travel to costantinople are useless, the goal is Vinland,he never promised anything,we can see everyone development even without seeing the travel, thats how time skips work,we still can see mini flashback for 3-5 chapters but another 30-50 chapters only for sell some horns are useless,it's a fucking trading quest,it's not like this is the first timeskip in vinland saga eh.

I am aware why those arcs are there. It was more of a rhetorical question. How can you call it a "useless" and "fucking trading quest"? It's not like they went to sell those horns to a village on the other side of the hill. They traveled across Europe, met Slavs, Slavic paganism and Eastern Orthodox Chrisianity, saw cities like Kiev, navigated big rivers and lush Eastern European forests. Possibly saw Turkic Nomadic hordes. Then they finally reached Eastern Roman Empire and its capital, freaking Constantinople. It all also happens while extremely interesting people rule in those parts of Europe and extremely interesting things happen. Arc would also show another huge part of the Viking life, trading. A thing Vikings were most famous for after raiding.

Those arcs have so much potential and would be just as valuable, if not more, to the development of the whole crew. Not to mention it's relevancy to the actual journey to Vinland. Skipping or glossing over such thing is dumb. It also makes no sense to downplay it and say "usless" and "fucking trade quest". You can downplay pretty much every arc like that, even more so. True they may have met those people but clearly there wasnt any justification for them to have an impact on thorfin nor would going to those places enhance or progress the narrative any further than what was given to us. All that happened that was of note was the selling of the horns and no character development or further plot development happened.

I'm happy that Thorfinn and Gudrid are together now, but it would have been nice to see their relationship develop.  Perhaps we'll get some flashbacks?  Hild has been traveling with Thorfinn for two years and still hoping to kill him?  It's time for her to move on.  She has no place with them anymore.

Hild traveling with Thorfinn to kill him? Doesn't that remind you of something?

Hahaha!  Yes, it does.  And we saw how well that worked for Thorfinn with Askeladd.  Time for Hild to cut her losses.

Still a bit flashed overall, but I'm pleasantly surprised that Thorfinn, Gudrid and Karli are a real family now. It's more pleasant than surprising, tho. Leif is looking like a real old-timer now and this begs the question whether he can come along on the upcoming big journey or not. Also wondering what's going through Hild's mind after those two years and what role she's going to play in the future.

And it's crazy how much I like Halfdan and Sigurd now. Wedding party was pretty cute.
