It's good to see that Thorkell is as awesome as ever. And Canute is become a man now.

WTF is wrong with you people and your obsession with the main character...its not some shallow story focusing on Thorfinn each adn every chapter, there are other characters as well. Guys for heavens sake, Its called 'Vinland Saga' for a reason.

Awww, I just noticed the other character to the right of the TV anime announce text. I'm so disappoint right now.

Me too, but perhaps it's for the best. Can you imagine the amount of filler we'd have to wade through in a anime made from a monthly manga? I hope they make it one day, but not now.

The reason being because it's loosely based on the Icelandic Vinland Sagas (Eirik the Red's saga and the The saga of the Greenlanders) about a man named Thorfinn Karlsefni who is one of the Norse explorers to go to "Vinland" and attempt to settle there (Thorfinn is only a small part of each of these sagas, as they involve multiple trips to Vinland, and he was only on one.). Although this is off in its time line as there is no indication that Leif Eirikson (Eirik the Red's son) was as much older than Thorfinn as he is in this manga. Thorfinn was indeed from Iceland, as Leif Eirikson was a successful trader, but there is no indication that Lefi knew Thorfinn since he was a child. I could go on with ways it doesn't match up, but they are taking characters from a saga and throwing them into an area of history they were not involved in much at all...

So really if you look at it its called Vinland saga because its based on the Icelandic sagas, not because it focuses on multiple characters. The Icelandic Sagas usually followed a specific character, family or event, so this really breaks some of the writing styles set by them when they were written down around 1100-1300 AD. These were all loosely based on real events and people (often made more dramatic or added magic aspects or rediculous things like Egil jumping over a river and killing 13 men...)

So while I agree that its okay and in fact, nice, to focus on characters other then Thorfinn for a while, I just thought I would point out that your reason for it being called Vinland saga is not is fact the reason that it should focus on other characters... There was no one named Canute mentioned in the Vinland sagas.

The amount of material currently out in the manga definitely surpasses the amount of material needed for a full season of a TV show. If they were to make an anime, they could probably do without any filler whatsoever.
