Nousatsu Rock Shounen is somewhat predictable and filled with clichés at times, yet it maintains a sweet charm throughout. The unexpected plot twist involves the love rival not being who you'd anticipate. The original one-shot is adorable. Mirai can't bring herself to reject the nerdy 'Nobitani' and later uncovers his big secret when he confesses his love for her. If the manga had ended there, I would have been satisfied, as I wasn't particularly interested in their subsequent adventures. The light-hearted atmosphere is enjoyable, and the exaggerated antics add to the fun. However, by the second volume, the story becomes cluttered with too many elements. Nousatsu has an episodic slice-of-life vibe, allowing any chapter to be read independently, so it's best to take your time with it.
Character:
In the translation, the names were slightly altered, though it doesn't make much difference.
Mirai/Maki is a decent character until her sinus issues become annoying. She constantly gets nosebleeds from any loving gesture or mention of Neji's coolness.
Nobitani/Neji/Renji, the self-proclaimed loser of the school, turns out to be a rockstar—a revelation most readers likely figured out right away. He’s an average character; I don’t dislike him unless he gets overly brooding and emo.
Romance:
For some reason, all the kiss scenes are censored with large white blotches, as if someone erased them with the pink end of a pencil. This was disappointing for me, being a big shoujo fan, as elaborate kiss scenes with screen tones and sparkles in the background are a major draw of shoujo.
Art:
The art is pleasant and distinctive due to its square-wide appearance. Without hairstyles, many male characters look similar in this manga. However, the backgrounds are well-drawn and appear frequently.
Overall:
It was a decent story overall. I became quite bored after chapter two, though that might just be personal preference. The re-read value is low. Still, I plan to check out its spinoff eventually.

Artwork: I found the artwork to be quite impressive! Absolutely loved it!
Overall: This manga is a favorite of mine. If possible, I would certainly purchase it for my collection. I highly recommend this manga to anyone who enjoys short, sweet, humorous, romantic shoujo stories. :)
Re-read Value: Very High.

Status: Ongoing
That’s a red flag for me. If this ever gets Completed I’d like to know then, but for now I’ll remove it from my “future reads” list.
