Overall, not a bad read at all. I enjoyed the unique perspective—a perfume maker with a sharp sense of smell unintentionally using his talents and olfactory skills to unravel mysteries. This concept had potential to expand far beyond just three chapters, and it's disappointing that it didn't. To be honest, even though I found myself thinking, "This is kind of silly" while reading, I still genuinely liked it.  

Character development was virtually nonexistent, which is understandable given the brevity of the story, but you can tell there are intriguing backstories waiting to be explored if the work had continued longer.  

The artwork was decent but not without flaws—there were moments where something felt off, like a misplaced eye or inconsistent rendering of the main character, Kanade.  

As for the plot, it doesn't really progress anywhere meaningful. It can't, considering it spans only three chapters. So many threads are left hanging, hints dropped that will never be resolved, and that's incredibly frustrating.  

Would I recommend it? Surprisingly, no, despite generally liking it. The reason lies in its short length. While it doesn't demand much time investment, readers should expect to feel unsatisfied by the end.

Parfum Extrait 0 is a concise manga created by Kaori Yuki. The protagonist, Kanede, is a perfumer with an extraordinary sense of smell and remarkable detective abilities. His heightened senses sometimes lead to sensory overloads, prompting him to adhere to a strict diet to preserve his olfactory edge. Beyond his keen sense of smell, Kanede is highly observant, noticing details that others overlook. He reunites with his cousin after rescuing her from a group of men who were sexually harassing her, mistakenly believing her to be American due to her Western appearance. Together, they delve into solving mysteries as they find themselves entangled in peculiar events.

The story's concept is intriguing yet unconventional for a manga. Each chapter presents three distinct mysteries, making them relatively easy to follow. The mysteries themselves are bizarre and unusual. Unlike typical characters in Kaori Yuki’s works, Kanede and Anais are not dark or brooding but rather charming and pleasant. Symbolism plays a role, with different scents representing various emotions or actions—some symbolizing death, others love.

Kaori Yuki's detailed art style shines through, featuring well-drawn characters as expected. The atmosphere blends suspense, mystery, and a touch of levity. The two cousins exhibit excellent chemistry, especially considering their familial bond. Anais is more grounded and relaxed compared to her serious and passionate cousin, often stepping in to correct Kanede when he gets carried away. Anais can occasionally be scatterbrained and impulsive, adding humor to the narrative. The dialogue is engaging and well-crafted.

Despite its brevity, the story attempts to maximize plot development. However, the disjointed and rushed plot leaves some elements unexplained. The characters are not fully developed, which is somewhat disappointing given how likable Kanede and Anais are. A longer version of Parfum Extrait 0 would have enhanced the enjoyment significantly. Nevertheless, it remains an excellent and entertaining read.

The author of "0 no Soukoushi" is Kaori Yuki, the first mangaka whose name I've remembered. Her style of art and storytelling is so unique that it cannot be mistaken for someone else's.  
  
This one is quite good for people who are starting their adventures with Yuki-sensei's work. The art is amazing as always - dark, stunning, marvelous, but not as gloomy as it can be in her other mangas. It's lighter, but not too light, which is really a big plus.  
  
The same goes for the story - we have some difficult cases and a perfumer who more or less unwillingly plays the role of a detective. The main hero and heroine are really well-developed. They aren't clones of countless manga characters, but people of flesh and blood. The story wouldn't be as interesting without them. Importantly, the reader can really like them, remember them, and there isn't any darkness in them. Yuki-sensei likes controversies, but she somewhat makes this one easier for the reader, and I really liked it. It's truly a pity that this manga is so short.  
  
The biggest advantage and disadvantage is that it was made by Kaori Yuki. I'm a great fan of hers, but once again she repeated the same things that I didn't like. It's too short, many things aren't explained, they leave us with too many questions, and sometimes the story is so complicated that it becomes unrealistic. I still love it, but really - if she does something so crazy, she should make it longer.  
  
The only thing I didn't like, and it wasn't characteristic of Yuki-sensei, was that the hero's sense of scent was praised so much in such a short manga, but it wasn't really that annoying as I thought it would be.

The concept of a perfumer moonlighting as a detective, utilizing his extraordinary expertise in scents and his exceptional sense of smell, is undeniably intriguing. However, the mystery aspect—the cases themselves—falls somewhat flat, which detracts from an otherwise compelling protagonist.  

Art: 8/10  
The art style is superb. The characters are visually appealing, and the scenes effectively convey the action clearly.  

Characters: 8/10  
The main character is captivating, and the heroine adds depth. Together, these two are the backbone that elevates the entire manga.  

Overall (8/10) and conclusion:  
With great characters and a fresh premise, this manga delivers an engaging experience. I'm definitely going to explore more works by this author.

I really enjoy Kaori Yuki's Cain series, and this manga had the potential to evolve into something comparable. The characters are visually stunning and intriguing in terms of personality. However, the fact that it is confined to a single volume left me feeling somewhat less engaged with the characters and the overall narrative.

Anais, the primary female character, is particularly delightful. I appreciate how she refuses to let Kanade, the main male lead, get away with anything! Without her influence, there was a risk that Kanade might have come across as overly serious or melodramatic. However, Anais effectively deflates his occasional pompous tendencies, grounding him in reality. This interaction makes him much more likable.

For this manga to leave a lasting impression on me, it could have benefited from a stronger overarching plot or mystery, which is quite challenging to accomplish within such a limited scope. Nevertheless, we do receive some backstory, engaging banter between Kanade and Anais, and a few captivating, gothic-macabre short stories reminiscent of those found in Petshop of Horrors or XXXholic. If you're a fan of these mangas, and if you enjoy Angel Sanctuary and the Earl Cain series, you will likely find this an enjoyable read. What a pity it couldn't have been expanded further!

I began reading 0 no Soukoushi as the artwork and summary caught my interest, and it ended up being even better than I expected. There was extensive detail about perfumes, and the plot was truly fascinating, making it hard for me to put down. The artwork was also stunning.  

However, the manga felt too brief, with some questions left unresolved.  

0 no Soukoushi, despite its short length, is an engaging story that will leave readers craving more.

You might never get an answer, I’ve had like 3 friends who has read this novel before, but none of us ever made it past 3k. This novel is a test of your patience to deal with being bored, I would say that a m*s*ch*st would love it, but I don’t think masochists like boring either. So like, I don’t think anyone is caught up lol

So amazing, just amazing. The feeling to have someone wait for you and to grow old with you is amazing and so loving. I will be blessed to find a man like Qin Zhi.
