There are four one-shots in the series, each telling a separate story. I’ll give a general overview of what happens in these narratives. The first three involve rape—two of which feature emotional blackmail forcing the female characters into repeated sexual abuse, while the last one deals with an attempted rape. Among the first three, they fall under MS's questionable categorization of so-called "consensual rape," a term whose absurdity is deeply troubling on its own. I was horrified. As a woman, I was both horrified and infuriated to see women subjected to such marginalization, abuse, and subjugation—and even more disturbed that these female characters willingly returned for more. It’s grotesque, especially since these stories were written by another woman.
The first one-shot: A young businessman harbors a twisted desire to destroy "pure" things. He states, "I like to dirty pure things because I'm dirty." Do we learn explicitly what makes him dirty? No, we don’t. A naive orphan girl goes to wish her brother a happy birthday at his workplace but is mistakenly (or so we assume) taken for someone else and subsequently raped. Her resistance is weak, almost reluctant, as if she's ambiguously open to being violated. Eventually, she becomes dependent on and "tamed" by this man, deciding she wants to stay with him despite everything. He rapes her repeatedly, yet she gives the issue little thought, enjoys herself with him, and ultimately falls in love with him. One particularly harrowing scene involves an earring; it nearly made me abandon the manga altogether. It felt like a slap in the face. Did I enjoy this? Of course not. The characters are poorly developed, and the one-shot itself is clumsily executed, though the artwork is undeniably beautiful.
The second one-shot: A girl is in a casual sexual relationship with her boyfriend and meets another man, engaging in sex with him. This new guy then emotionally manipulates her, giving her an ultimatum, and she willingly complies, spending a day having sex with him. Later, he tracks her down at her school, and she agrees to become his side girlfriend, continuing their sexual arrangement while still seeing her original partner. Naturally, her former boyfriend doesn't take kindly to being "cuckolded" and retaliates, but somehow, the main couple finds their "true love"—yeah, right. The male lead is predictably skilled in combat, a well-known figure in an all-boys school, and exceedingly wealthy. Isn't he always? She, meanwhile, is merely a casual sex partner who claims dissatisfaction with her current relationship and yearns for something deeper, longing for a love-based connection. Yet, she sleeps with the rich boy immediately and then complains about wanting substance? Does that make any sense to anyone? She's flighty, promiscuous, and seemingly unconcerned about potential consequences like sexually transmitted diseases or even personal safety. He's a manipulative individual who uses threats and coercion to reel her in, proving adept at picking vulnerable targets.
The third one-shot: **As a note, this is the story where the female character essentially voices the shared experiences of many women in much of MS's work—they are raped, abused, and mistreated.**
I felt some sympathy for this girl because scenarios like hers aren't uncommon, often involving exploitation by figures of authority, whether familial, professional, or academic. That makes it unsettling, but what truly bothers me is how she eventually becomes a willing participant, eagerly anticipating further abuse. Women have long been exploited and mistreated for their bodies, sometimes forced to endure harassment or threats just to secure their futures. Seeing this kind of abuse depicted in a manga is one thing, but portraying it as blossoming into love is laughable. Here, a naïve girl on the tennis team is in a relationship but is being abused by a powerful authority figure admired as a heartthrob. She was blackmailed after making a significant mistake, which was indeed her fault, but no one deserves such treatment. Watching her suffer evokes empathy, but when she begins to anticipate and crave more, it becomes jarring. At the end of the story, I found myself agreeing with her boyfriend's perspective.
The final story is the only one without a rape scene and reminded me somewhat of *Akuma no Eros*. It centers around a feared gang leader admired by everyone, including a young girl who will do anything to win his affection because she loves him. There’s potential for a deeper narrative here, one that could have been compelling if MS had chosen to develop it further. Unfortunately, as a one-shot, it lacks depth, leaving me unfulfilled.
At times, the characters feel rushed, and the stories themselves are overly condensed. The character development is either poor or mediocre, with male leads too despicable to discuss and female protagonists offering little inspiration for women to waste time reading about.
