For a work by Takanaga Hinako, this was exceptionally disappointing. The art might have been the only redeeming factor, but even that wasn't particularly great. Of course, this was one of her earlier mangas, so I suppose it's unfair to compare it to her better works.
Plot-wise, it was abysmal. I felt sorry for Kouta having to endure Akira's character, but I lost all sympathy when Kouta repeatedly forgave Akira despite his weak will. I kept hoping Kouta would finally snap and say something like, "That's it, I can't take it anymore." But it never happened. The occasional minor arguments or temper tantrums weren't enough. It seemed too easy for Akira—just whisper some sweet words to Kouta, and they'd instantly reconcile. How incredible the power of love is! *claps*
When Kouta fell down the stairs, I thought there might be a glimmer of hope. Maybe he'd follow the clichés and lose his memory, or something could happen to make Akira truly realize Kouta's importance. But no, everything was forgiven with kisses and a bit of seduction from Akira. Even after that, I kept reading, hoping for a change in Akira's heart. Unfortunately, I was let down once again. Akira continues to cheat relentlessly, even after making Kouta admit he didn't want him sleeping with anyone else. After the hospital scene, I thought there might be hope for Akira, but the ending shattered that. Cheating is cheating, regardless of sexual orientation. Sleeping with someone of the opposite gender still counts as betrayal. The ending was poor, especially since Kouta remained unaware of Akira's infidelity and continued working hard because Akira lied and pressured him to do so. Akira is one of the worst characters ever, and let's not even discuss Kouta's wimpy tendencies.
In summary, "Study Hard" isn't worth your time unless you're extremely bored and looking for something to rant about. While it started promisingly, everything gradually deteriorates after the move to Tokyo. I strongly recommend skipping this manga and exploring Takanaga Hinako's other works, which much better highlight her talents in both art and storytelling.
This review turned out longer than intended, but I needed to express my frustration. Honestly, I would have rated it a 1 if not for a few somewhat decent aspects, like the art.
