The Mayan ceremonial dagger bore an inscription in the ancient language that read: "Offer thy heart." Clearly, it was an instruction left by the past inhabitants of this forgotten place. But who would be foolish enough to stab themselves in the heart with a rusty old knife found inside a tombstone?
After activating my battery pack, the dagger glowed brightly in a cyan light. The creatures are approaching; I can hear their footsteps.
It's now or never.

MC starts out with no particular grand ambition beyond pursuing his archeological dream, but he quickly gets wrapped up in more than he bargained for and becomes a reluctant hero. He obviously changes as the plot progresses. His archeology background becomes key to solving mysteries, more a brain-over-brawn beginning then evolving into a more powerful character.
I also find MC’s system very clever and exceptionally appropriate for this story. I like that it isn’t just a screen interface. Lots of potential while still having enough limitations to keep things interesting.
Side characters have distinctive personalities. Several mysteries are set there that I’m waiting to read more about… The main group is kind of a band of misfits. They feel unique, and I like the bond they form and the ways they interact. Be sure you read far enough to let the characters settle in to their roles.
In terms of writing, I have no problem feeling the atmosphere and emotions, visualizing the scenes, characters, creatures, etc… I think the author writes in a way that paints an accurate image without being overly descriptive or wordy. And the action scenes are easy to follow.
All in all, definitely recommend!
Thanks for the adventure!
1. I laughed, scared, frustrated, and even moved by the events.
2. The world is unique and original.
3. The monsters that appear are impressive and easy to imagine and very detailed.
4. The protagonist has a profession rarely seen.
5. The narration is dynamic and detailed, yet the narrator manages to describe the world in such a way that there's still room for the reader's imagination.
100% recommended and a must read for the lovers of mysteries.
