Meet Joanna Gore Alex, a typical teenager who isn't particularly excited about starting anew at a different school. As she navigates her first day, Joanna realizes that teachers often favor the popular crowd, and her peers seem uninterested in making friends. Adding to her woes, she experiences an embarrassing incident with a handsome fellow student. However, over time, Joanna finds solace in unexpected friendships and discovers her own strength in standing up to the school's mean girl. Her life takes an interesting turn when she develops a connection with Frank, one of her brother's new acquaintances. The more she gets to know him, the more familiar his name, Francis James, sounds to her, though she can't quite place the reason. Through this journey, Joanna learns that life is about more than just academic responsibilities; she uncovers the value of friendship, family, heartbreak, and ultimately, love.
