In the quaint town of Moon-Land, a long-standing tradition dates back to its founding days: the Mating Run. Every year, on the final day of school for graduating seniors (those turning 18) and young wolves aged 18 to 21 who haven't found their match yet, this unique event takes place. To many, it resembles a debutante ball, albeit a simpler gathering held in a forest, where wolves don their finest attire instead of humans. Rose James reluctantly prepares for her final Mating Run, knowing deep down she has no intention of finding her soulmate there. She firmly believes that she doesn't require an alpha partner at all. Reflecting on her parents' unhappy marriage, marred by infidelity and constant arguments, Rose declares: "I'm content with living my life without a mate. My parents' experience with a forced mating has left me unenthusiastic. They ended up with someone who wasn't their true match, and look where that led them. For me, being single is better than settling for a life like theirs." "You should still keep an open mind about meeting someone, even outside the Mating Run," a friend suggests. But Rose remains resolute, dismissing the idea with a mixture of frustration and determination. "Let's not discuss that ridiculous event and its absurd rules. I have no interest in anyone – not an alpha, beta, or anyone else. No one can change my mind," she grumbles.
