This manga was more engaging than the movie, but it definitely lacked some backstory. Only Saya has an intriguing and cool backstory that I found very captivating. The other characters, however, felt completely flat. I would have preferred if the narrative continued with characters from the movie, like David, the cop, and the woman, instead of jumping 30 years into the future.
Art 8/10
The art was truly impressive! It featured plenty of blood and gore, making it visually appealing and well-executed. Although it's basic, it's done skillfully.
Characters 7/10
As mentioned earlier, apart from Saya (and her insane twin), the rest of the characters were dull and uninspired. They were okay, but they could have been better. Regarding Akiko, the other child, I believe she was underutilized. Her fate came as a surprise, but I would have liked to learn more about why she resented her parents and such aspects of her character.
Enjoyment 9/10
It fulfilled its purpose—I thoroughly enjoyed it! This is a fascinating manga because it doesn't follow a typical storyline. The protagonist, Benkyo Tamaoki, is a hentai artist who masterfully blends erotism with horror and action, which was refreshing and well-done. While the erotic elements seemed unnecessary and served as filler, they were intended to shock, and in that regard, they succeeded.
Overall 8/10
I genuinely liked it. Although the characters were somewhat lacking, the story and art more than compensated for the underdeveloped characters.
It also contains a significant amount of violence and sexual content, specifically lesbian scenes.
This manga serves as a solid continuation of the Blood: The Last Vampire anime movie. However, it concludes on a cliffhanger, similar to the film, leaving the reader craving more closure.
I would recommend this manga only if you appreciated the movie and are comfortable with explicit language and sexual themes.
Additionally, it's contained in a single volume, so there's no need for further purchases!
But I soon realized it was nothing like Blood+.
Certainly, it featured vampires and seemed to me more of a hybrid of Blood: The Last Vampire (the movie) and Blood+ (the anime) than anything else, yet it had its own points of interest.
Story [8/10]
As I mentioned earlier, the story appeared more of a hybrid of the anime movie Blood: The Last Vampire and the anime series Blood+, so I can't say for sure how the story would have impacted me if I had read it first, but I'll share what I can.
The story was shocking at the very least, including violent and homosexual themes, with the use of blood being prevalent and orgy-like scenes frequently gracing the pages, which I felt might have detracted from the actual story at times. While the blood was necessary, I felt they were just adding sex to appeal to a more perverted audience.
The story lacked backstory, with the characters seeming undeveloped as did the reasoning behind the events, though the subsequent occurrences were definitely intriguing as a full-scale battle erupted between protagonist and antagonist.
Art [7/10]
With the art, you begin to understand just what response the manga aims to elicit from its reader. The art appears brutal and crude, yet you can tell it has a purpose; the manga wants to offend and shock you. It is undoubtedly one of the most interesting aspects of the manga, though not present solely in the art, as the story also includes graphic sex scenes, blood spatter, and crazed expressions that unsettle you.
Character [4/10]
The manga wasn't very character-driven, focusing more on shocking you rather than intriguing you, leaving the characters undeveloped and uninteresting as individuals.
Enjoyment [5/10]
The manga wasn't created to entertain, per se, but more as a tool to shock. Its purpose was similar to a horror movie in that you watch it to be scared, well, you read it to be shocked. Not entertained.
