Slave System!?

I was standing in the middle of the grassy plain that had suddenly transformed in my mindscape.  Little balls of light started to form. All floating,all growing bigger as time went past.  The lights I saw glimmered and I felt a vague sense of danger from them.

this owl thing comes up in many fanfics, and I have no idea were its from. can someone tell me were the  whole "OWL" thing comes from???
