As a girl, Olive loved fantasy. Reading it, writing it, building her world, making it a place she could wrap around herself. A world of bold knights, dashing princes, and cunning sorceresses, it spoke to her in a voice that soothed and excited her, all at once. It told her that a life could be more meaningful, more magical, than the one she was stuck with.

As an adult, Olive loved money. Fantasies only last so long, and after her attempt at an epic flopped, she changed tack. Pursuing a career in marketing, she clawed her way up the corporate ladder, throwing off any poor fool that barred her way.

But ambition paints a target. Just as she reached the top, becoming CMO of her agency, the bill came due. She never saw the flash, barely felt the bullet, but it ended her climb, right quick.
