In a fractured, post-apocalyptic world where gunpowder and explosives never existed, humanity survives amidst the ruins of once-great cities. Birmingham, England—once a sanctuary for survivors—has fallen, becoming a battleground in a brutal war between England, ruled by the genetically enhanced Imperfects, and Japan, a nation where humans and Imperfects coexist under the shadow of a colossal radioactive-proof megastructure. As the two nations clash over dwindling resources, the remnants of Birmingham struggle to survive under the leadership of Elias, a hardened strategist determined to reclaim their city.

Erley, an Imperfect missing the capacity for mercy but otherwise emotionally intact, works tirelessly for Elias, carrying out missions to protect the surviving civilians. In a world where warfare relies on bows, swords, and advanced bioweapons, Erley is a tool of survival, unburdened by compassion but driven by duty. However, when the war reignites during a critical mission, Erley's world is upended: Myora, a woman he has grown inexplicably attached to, is captured by the Japanese army. Despite the belief that Imperfects are incapable of love, Erley is driven by an unfamiliar longing to rescue her. Abandoning his post, he leaves his fellow Imperfects and Elias to lead the convoy of survivors in their fight against London's oppressive forces, while he embarks on a perilous journey to Japan.
