Abigail is the daughter of a once proud but now dying pack, a pack that would do anything to restore their position amongst the greatest packs once again. But luckily for them, Abigail catches the attention of Darius, alpha of the most powerful and dangerous pack in America. She is at once given to him as a bargaining chip more so than a bride, as a means to cement her pack's relationship with that of Darius'. Now Abigail will have to survive this prison she calls a marriage to the monster wolf Darius, while also trying to suppress her feelings for her true mate Elias. But this is easier said than done, because amidst finding the secrets to her past, and plotting with her true mate to escape and bring down Darius, she will find herself bearing feelings towards him, and learn everything to be more complex than she initially thought. And it all starts with Abigail trying to make Darius fall for her. "I don't know how you got that idea into your pretty head, but Darius doesn't fall in love." "There's a first time for everything." "A first time huh?" Darius' voice echoes into my ears. "You have two months to make me fall for you. But if you fail, I'll kill your best friend Rosemary, her mate, and every member of your pack."

Himatsubushi is undoubtedly the weakest Higurashi arc. However, this doesn't imply it's bad. It's actually pretty good; it adds more depth to Ooishi's character, making him more relatable, introduces us to Akasaka, and provides insight into what occurred prior to Higurashi. It accomplishes its objectives effectively. From a story perspective, it's also the least strong due to being the shortest, so there wasn't much room for extraordinary writing in the manga. The characters were fantastic, young Rika is incredibly adorable, and I appreciated how they humanized Ooishi. The art was decent, not particularly remarkable but quite satisfactory and occasionally excellent.

In summary, Himatsubushi is a solid arc. While it's the weakest of all, it still holds its own. 7/10<p>

This was an excellent arc, though unfortunately it was somewhat shorter compared to the others. I found myself really appreciating Akasaka and even started to like Ooshi a bit more as well.
In terms of art, this is by far the cutest depiction of Rika so far—it might be because she's younger here than in the other arcs.
This arc stood out significantly from the rest, taking place before the onset of Oyashiro's curse and during the ongoing dam project conflict. I truly enjoyed how distinct this arc was compared to the others; however, only two episodes of it made it into the anime, and I appreciated exploring the additional events that unfolded. This arc tends to be overlooked somewhat, but I would highly recommend giving it a read.

Story - This was one of my all-time favorite arcs in the anime 'Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni,' and it surpasses expectations in the manga! It enriches the characters of Ooishi, Rika, and Mion significantly while introducing Akasaka into the mix.

Art - As expected, the art in Higurashi remains stunning yet hauntingly creepy at times (Rika's scenes earlier in this volume are particularly striking). In some instances, I believe the artwork even outshines what was presented in the anime.

Character - Rika takes center stage in this volume as the narrative delves deeper. Her character reveals an entirely new dimension here, showcasing her determination and tenacity like never before.

Enjoyment - As mentioned, this arc has always been a personal favorite. Its limited representation in the anime, with just two or three episodes, made the expanded manga version all the more satisfying. The mahjong chapter was especially intriguing, offering additional scenes not featured in the anime.

Overall - This is an outstanding addition to the Higurashi series. If you enjoyed the preceding volumes, you absolutely must read this one. It starts unraveling the mysteries surrounding the eerie events in their seemingly peaceful yet disturbing village!
