Tried to do a little too much

The series Heptagon revolves around a girl who idolizes her older sister to an extreme degree and is somewhat emotionally detached. After being involved in a car accident, she gains the ability to travel back in time and relives her middle school years with a second chance at life.

The premise is intriguing, but the series attempts to juggle too many elements within a limited scope. It starts as a second-chance narrative, shifts into a sibling rivalry storyline, transitions into a romance, and then becomes a self-improvement journey. Trying to incorporate all these themes in just one volume proves overwhelming, and it doesn't fully succeed. However, it also doesn't completely derail the experience. The story doesn't leave a lasting impression, but it avoids major missteps, allowing the author to salvage the narrative despite its issues. Another notable problem is the series' title, Heptagon, which references a time capsule created by seven people during middle school. Unfortunately, this subplot feels unnecessary and adds little value to the overall story.

Despite these minor flaws, the series has potential. While it lacks clarity in defining its core focus, it handles the romance aspect reasonably well. That said, the ending could have been more satisfying, and the resolution of certain conflicts felt underwhelming. Overall, though, the author does a decent job balancing the various elements.

5/10 It's fine. A decent way to pass the time.
