On the day he first met a cultivator, Yaan’s life was changed forever.

All that he cared for was ripped away from him. He was forced into a despair-inducing situation, but he endured, he fought, he refused to give up.

But why did he persevere, what drove him to go on?

With nothing to return to, his hatred and rage fuelled his will to survive…

But hatred begets more hatred and the flames of rage are extinguished with time. He was desperately clinging to any thread of meaning that he could find, but heated emotions do not last forever, and ambitions are rarely easily achieved. A person changes over time, often into that which they once despised…

Life…is a struggle. A struggle against the world, a struggle against our own nature, and a struggle against fate. This is the tale of a lone person’s struggle through a twisted world, and his desperate attempt to resist his desolate fate.

A great novel. The chapters are long (in a good way) and are engaging. I am glad that I found such an amazing novel.

Author, I recommend that you remove the ''villain'' tag.  If you're not going to write a novel where the mc will follow dao demonioco it's better to remove this tag.  If you keep this up, the only thing you'll get are negative comments from "evil MC" fans, and claims that you're deceiving readers.

Desolate Fate is a re-write of another novel called A Desolate Life. I'm basing my review on ADL, which I read all 256 chapters of.

This is a better written xianxia then most of what is available on webnovel and other sties like royal road. It avoids the bad tropes and cliches common in other cookie cutter stories, yet still stays true to the genre. The world building and cultivation system are consistent, and you can tell the author has done a lot of work behind the scenes to make everything feel purposeful.

The story takes follows the protagonist's rise in the cultivation world, as well as his exploration of his mysterious past. Each volume is a satisfying story arc in and of themselves, while all still progressing the meta plot. The first few chapters contain foreshadowing for a reveal that comes 250 chapters later, while not feeling out of place.

The main character definitely grows and changes throughout the chapters. The main character starts out as young child, forced into a "righteous" sect that has killed his family. He struggles with his anger, and the conflict of wanting to get revenge while not going too far. His innocence is broken and for a while he becomes a lot more demonic, which can turn away some readers. The villainous lead tag is there for a reason. In his heart of hearts though, the MC does not want to be a killer, or evil. He is forced by his circumstances for a while, but eventually works towards gaining redemption.

A fine cultivation novel, which clearly depicts the cruelty of the cultivation world and also shows the main character's inner struggles beautifully. It's very different from those cliche cl novels, where hot-blooded Mc's just go running around chasing dumb cats and offending arrogant young masters. All in all, I have enjoyed this novel thus far and hope it stays the same.

Here I go giving my own novel a 5-Star review again...;)

Desolate Fate is a rebranded/polished/reuploaded version of my first novel, A Desolate Life, which has four released volumes. Most of my readers have told me that the novel gets better and better as it goes along, and the feedback from the end of volume 4 was amazing. Rewriting the novel should fix all of the minor issues some people had with the earlier chapters.

This is a dark novel. It is tragic, grim, and shows the darker side not only of the cultivation world, but of life as a whole. The protagonist starts off as a naive young kid, but he gradually changes throughout the novel as he experiences more of the world and comes to realise that his life is not as mundane as he had once believed...

I gave this novel the anti-hero AND villain tags for a reason - the protagonist changes. He is not outright good, he is not outright evil. At times he clings to morality, at times he becomes a villain in the eyes of everyone around him. If you want to read a dark, serious, somewhat philosophical cultivation novel, with plot-twists, and a main character who experiences both success and failure, then this is the novel for you.

A have a solid plan for this novel, in terms of world building, character development, and many crucial plot points. To my old readers who are here to read again - welcome back! To my new readers - welcome! I hope you'll give this novel a chance, because I am committed to seeing it through.
