However, after the initial three parts, the pace slows down significantly, transforming the series into a more slice-of-life drama, depicting the girls spending time together. The yuri aspect takes a backseat, with brief glimpses of it occurring when Yuriha is sexually harassed, which unfortunately becomes a recurring theme and uncomfortable to read about, especially considering her past trauma.
A spoiler follows:
As the story progresses, Yuriha's past rape comes into play, intensifying the sexual harassment. Ranko, who is aware of Yuriha's history, even resorts to drugging and raping her, which is an unsettling turn of events. Moreover, it's puzzling how Ranko, knowing about the harassment Yuriha has faced, becomes the most persistent harasser.
Later on, the series shifts from a harem to a love triangle involving Yuriha, Ranko, and Sakihime, with Yuzuriha and Hinoka taking on more supporting roles. Instead of multiple relationships, the narrative narrows down to two subplots: Ranko, Yuriha, and Sakihime, and Yuzuriha and Hinoka.
Another spoiler:
Sakihime also joins the list of harassers, adding Ranko, Hinoka, and Sakihime, while leaving Yuzuriha as the lone "normal" character. Unfortunately, Yuzuriha's potential shines less due to her reduced screen time. Despite her likability, the series disappointingly loses its yuri harem focus.
In conclusion, the series earns a rating of 3 out of 5. It's a decent read up until the fourth part, but subsequent developments make it a more conventional slice-of-life story about girl dynamics.
"As a translator, I'd say this story shares a similar vibe with Yuru Yuri or A Room for Two. Its primary focus is on cuteness and showcasing flirty interactions. While there's some narrative development, it doesn't delve deep into a complex plot.
To give you a hint, the characters eventually form a harem, which naturally opens up more opportunities for heartwarming and adorable moments.
In summary, it's a light and enjoyable read – perfect for taking a break with a few chapters, then diving into heavier content afterward."
There's a fair amount of sexual harassment and even a hint of rape, which has become a major letdown in recent Yuri-focused content. I prefer reading Yuri because I genuinely enjoy it, not as a male-oriented or gender-swapped male protagonist story. The only saving grace here is that it doesn't fall into that trap. However, the common narrative of a protagonist being a lesbian due to past trauma with men feels forced.
While there can be charming, light moments, they often clash with the more serious themes the story tries to address or outright undermines. In short, it's not my preferred type of read.
I've observed a pattern in webnovels – as they surpass 150 chapters, they often lose focus or devolve into cliches. The longer the story, the lower the quality tends to be. Generally, anything over 200 chapters is best avoided. My advice for potential readers: if a novel is ongoing and has more than 200 chapters, it's likely not worth the time.
In essence, it's not a book I'd recommend, but each reader has their own preferences.
One aspect worth mentioning is the pacing. Chapters are concise yet密集 with yuri content, giving the story a leisurely progression. Despite only eight chapters covering less than a day's time, the pace may pick up once character introductions and background are fully established. For now, the daily pace works just fine. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story develops, Mr. Robot!
