I stood on the platform, arms linked with my Soulbond. The people I had known for so long stood on it as well, nervous and excited. Ion gestured at us that everything was ready. Then he pressed a button on his tablet. The runes carved into the platform started dimly glowing, a dark purple, almost black.
Then it all went wrong. Ion's expression went dark, and then he laughed. It was a mad laugh. Alarmed, I was about to shadow-step off the platform, before I noticed that I couldn't. My Energy stores, my mana, was inaccessible. My Soulbond screamed, a scream of intense agony. I held her closer, afraid of what was to come.
That bastard! He cheated us! Betrayed us!
I was ripped from my thoughts as pain coursed through me. Something seemed as if it was analyzing me, disassembling me in the process. Then a flash. The worst pain I had ever felt, and nothingness. Only darkness. No, not darkness. Just nothing. A Void.
I died.
