Cold Vengeance

"Detective Darlene Roberts, I regret to inform you that you are now under arrest for the murder of George Martins." Looking up through tear-filled eyes, I saw an array of officers aiming their weapons at me. Surprisingly, I didn't feel frozen or panicked; instead, my focus shifted back to my former love. His lifeless body, still warm, lay there, blood pooling from his forehead and chest. His shirt was shredded, and his once-vibrant eyes stared blankly, as if searching for answers in my gaze. I gently closed his open mouth and adjusted his lips, which were twisted in a silent plea. It was evident that he had fought fiercely before succumbing. "You are entitled to remain silent. Anything you say can be used as evidence against you in a legal proceeding." Did the officer truly mean this? I protested inwardly, convinced of my innocence. I hurried here to offer assistance, not to become a suspect!
