ALPHA REJECTION

Violet, despite her allure, cannot be my destined partner. Breaking eye contact, I decide to dismiss the gathering, resolute in maintaining distance from her. As people disperse, I head towards an abandoned building, long deserted by humans, which has since become my sanctuary. A figure steps beside me, casting a shadow – my loyal beta. With more years and knowledge, he became my mentor after my father's tragic demise. Though he holds a position of authority, I secretly admire him more than I let on. "I wasn't expecting a feast announcement today," I remark, turning swiftly. Barely clad, I'm not bothered by our presence together, my thoughts focused on selecting attire from my dwindling wardrobe. It's clear I need to adopt the pack's casual approach. "What are we celebrating?" he inquires, curiosity shining in his gaze. "The revelation of my intended mate," I reply, averting my eyes to avoid his insightful stare. The truth, though, is too raw to confront. "Your mate? Have you discovered her?" His voice brims with eagerness. "No," I grumble, reluctantly hiding the truth. Lying to my beta serves the greater good of the pack. "This evening, I've chosen Violet as my chosen one," I announce, adopting a more human tone to convey the news.
