....what? That wasn't foreshadowing for this.
A living person was split between Will, Body, and Chakra. Kaguya used the Will (Black Zetsu) to trick madara into combining her Body (the funky demon statue) and Chakra (tailed beast/divine tree), and then added said Will to the mix to take over.

These trees are literally just the divine-tree/ten-tails, that manifested their own will by....themselves. Somehow.
If anything, Black and White Zetsus having different wills is probably the best foreshadowing for this nonsense. They are basically just people eaten by the tree and turned into dolls without will, but can be given a will such as Black Zetsu.

Huh, that was too fast. Rather than being this fast, MC should have just eradicated all of them in the first place and you'll be done in a jiffy.
