    I feel like logically, treating Tarikan like that, specifically cutting him off as quickly as possible, was a great option. Manipulating him or using him might tip him off that you're a  player as well  and then he could easily expose both of you with his ineptitude at masquerading as a barbarian. The benefits of having another player at your disposal are great, but not worth the initial risk right now. Gambling that he survives and maybe indirectly benefiting from his survival is both morally better than nothing and logically better than risking exposure.

    The only reward for a job well done, is more and harder work.
    As a noble, that means making his existence have no value to other nobles. Otherwise they will try to involve him in politics. That only matters if the guy wants to live comfortably.
