    That has nothing to do with your intelligence friend, either the author, or the translation, or both, are just often times complete unconnected gibberish.  Both people are having their own separate conversations with themselves when the characters have a dialogue, and their conversational flow has absolutely no logic to it, so it just becomes confusing.
