through the gags, slow pace, and apparent emotionlessness there's a deeply moving story of meaningful relationships and honoring what's lost being built here. this is absolutely stellar work. i could nitpick at things i'd rather have seen but i don't think that any of the changes i'd suggest would make for a more impactful story, just one that fits my preferences better.

Honestly i put off reading it for so long because reading the synopsis i thought it would involve a lot of mourning and more tragedy than i prepare to deal with but it is much the opposite. It is a beautiful story of life journey and gives you perspective on how fleeting it is and at the same time showing them a life well lived and the continuous legacy it leaves. It really emphasize connection and emotional journey while a lot of typical rpg adventure actions were packed in few small panels throughout and worth it to pay close attention to them aswell.

Also if you take note of the first panel of every arc showing how many years have passed i feel like it really emphasize how fast time pass for frieren's current teammates as their journey from town to town takes months

It has a promising start, a unique story that shined amongst a pile of mediocre isekai/rpg fantasy. A slice of life story that’s done right, showcasing the bittersweet memory of pass and creating new memories in the present. However, half the story, it takes a mainstream shounen approach with exam, fighting, and more fighting… demons. Kimetsu no yaiba? For now, I’m still looking forward where the story goes.

there isn't a lot of content that I would describe as truly elegiac but this captures the mood perfectly. I view it as a truly beautiful exploration on the themes of comradery, love, legacy, and a life well lived.

What pulls this apart is how unique it is compared to other stories. It's not a particularly awesome or super interesting story. It's just unique and solid. I would never bring myself to rate it a 10 or 9, 8/10 is just right. It's above average.

Everything is quite solemn in this story while at the same time keeping things a bit lighthearted, if only ever so slightly. This is its greatest strength yet also its greatest weakness that makes the rating fall unlike everyone else who seemed to vote it so high without much thought given to it. If stories like this were a bit more common, I doubt people would rate it so highly.

Fleeting life and constant partings, one whose internal clock seems very different from everyone else not to mention seemingly a stranger to most human emotions, that's essentially what this story is about. An advenure both into the past(flashbacks, of people or places mentioned or visited). Nice and all and it's a good read with some heavy emotions in it, but at the same time I feel like this is also a weakness. It's too solemn to the point where the story is also lacking those very emotions, as much of a contradiction as it appears to be.

Everyone seems to be lacking emotions, the author plays too heavily on the solemn part of the story to the point where, to be honest, everyone feels dull and lifeless. A lot of emotions are supposed to be flying around but the main thing is that everyone has hardly any expressions whatsoever and hardly any reactions to anything either. This is probably what resonates with people at the same time because it strikes close to home, most of us feel these things sometimes in life, the emotionlessness of life and just a general lack of purpose. But it's overdone when almost EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER seems to be so damn solemn, as if they're zombies, their faces seems to be a stone hard masks incapable of changing and everyone just looks dreary, the mood feels almost tangible, every single character feels like an adult who has given up on joy in life, people who've completely lost their so-called "inner child". Somehow the main character seems a bit more filled with life than the rest but she's also almost as soulless. This stuff really brings the story down a lot, it's overdone. I'll still give it an 8/10 because of how unique it is and that it was an interesting read, but if it wasn't as unique it would probably just be a 6/10.

I've honestly never seen a manga where everyone seems so sluggish and lacking in emotion yet talking about emotional stuff all the time. Would've been a greatly enhanced experience if these characters were more limited, contrast is incredibly important and this author doesn't seem to understand this.

Wow! Human lives are so short. Frieren lives a lifespan that long surpasses her companions. Enjoy Frieren's heartwarming, sometimes adventurous new journey with her new companions, but also reminiscence the bittersweet past.

It's sweet, it's sad. It's slice-of-life, but sometimes it's shounen action fights. It's life lessons, but it's fun, adventurous, and sometimes exciting. What a well-blended story.

Even though the story is a slife of life, every single chapter is captivating and holds so much story in it. The MC, Frieren, has just finished defeating the demon king with her teammates. Their journey together took 10 years, but to a near immortal elf, it's just a mere passing of time. After Himmel's (the hero) death, she seeks to find the meaning of life and throughout the story, we get to see her reminiscing on her time with her old teammates while enjoying the time with her new ones. It's written in a mellow and melancholic manner, and there is no overly crazy plots. Even during the action scenes, the problem is dealt with in a very sensible and reasonable way. I absolutely love this story, and it's especially heartbreaking to see that

Himmel loved Frierenthrough her reliving her memories.

7.3.2021.: I'm only 5 chapters into the story but I am enjoying it thoroughly already. The story is very mature in a peculiary calm and peaceful way, so far. The art is also flawlessly beautiful.

20.3.2021.: I've read the 42 chapters that are currently out. My appreciation for this story has only grown. It's flawless. The characters are very human. There are no ridiculously bad-guy bad guys. even the "evil" characters are human and aren't actually evil but are merely less hesistant when it comes to killing. Otherwise, they don't do it indiscriminately. The other thing that comes to my mind to point out right now is the following; The characters aren't depicted with a smile 100% of the time. That makes for this amazing effect which is that when a character (you appreciate) does smile, the world becomes a better place.

For some reason the title just made me hold off on reading this for a couple of months but that was quite the mistake. Unlike many novels that deal with death which can be summarized as "someone close to the MC dies young and now they have to deal with it", this deals with making memories after old friends have passed on while mixing in adventure and likable characters. 10/10 must read for me.

The best part is, it's not a slow burn. Try out the first 2 chapters, if you like it you'll like the rest and if it's not for you, well, the rest is in the same tone so you can skip with only a few minutes of investment.

I thought this gonna be a slice of life manga with some tragedy about how the elf get left out by her friends who will die of old age

but then the story become more serious and the pacing were great, you can see how the authour know how to build amazing story , i enjoyed it like how i read dungeon meshi and somali to Mori no Kami-sama.

I begin reading this expecting slow life of a retired hero, wish fulfillment or something. But unexpectedly it about a long ear's slow life journey instead. The story play about the elf long life span beautifully. The MC is an elf, her life span is more than her hero party companion so she live her life soooo slowly as expect of an elf in human point of view. Her companion die before her but the story did not play that as super drama or dog blood plot but play it as a short moment of her journey with them is shinning beautifully even though the companion were death before her. They will live on as her memory and that is what called beautiful. It touch my heart.
