    I think that was because in To Love-Ru's case, the author was in no state of mind to write an ending with a happy marriage due to his own wife leaving him (Haruna, the MC's first crush was modeled based on his wife, and the series started when their relationship didn't go south).

    So as much as I didn't really like the half-baked ending, I still appreciated that he went the extra mile to at least end it on a somewhat high note with everyone happy.
