I don't think it would have been a better ending if he kept his powers, married Ochaco, and became the #1 hero like All-Might. I think Midoriya did exactly what he said he was going to do: he became the world's greatest hero. It just didn't mean what we assumed it would mean. I think it actually meant more.

It actually is a kind of beautiful ending when you think about it because it parallels how it started: Midoriya was worthy of being called a hero before he got One for All and he remains worthy after he loses it.
