the story is great, brilliant, actually. it's very... emotional and contemplative. you really come to feel for the characters, and identify with them. the art isn't great, in the usual manga sense, since it's very much like a pencil sketch, but the art still has its own appeal, and the scenes the artist draws are totally apt, and convey the story beautifully. the character designs aren't too shabby, in fact i like a lot of them, though they're a little odd for a couple of characters, but that's the point.
though the premise may seem bizarre, you have to read this for the compelling story.
i would love to read more by this author.
Read it. If you need to remember any part of this comment, it should just be that first sentence.
From start to finish, as well as the light novel omake, this was the most engaging and satisfying manga that I have read in a long time. In only 31 chapters you feel disgusted at Kurosawa's "duty," laugh at Nagaoka's antics, inquire about Kitahara, feel relaxed with Takagawa's presence, cry at the plot twist, and feel totally heart-warmed at the end. There were times when my heart was beating so much that it hurt because of suspense and also because of sadness. No matter how twisted Kurosawa seems, you can't really bring yourself to hate him. He is very human, as well as (most) every other character introduced. A certain unexpected event in this manga had actually happened to me, and seeing Kurosawa deal with it makes me re-think what I should have done (not anything too drastic though, like he did...). There is a LOT of character development and multiple people find themselves in this manga. Once you read the entire thing, you really feel like you know every single character, and its a wonderful feeling. The art leaves a little to be desired, but the plot pacing and occasional anime references really kept me in.
Read it!
Like everyone else is saying don't let the synopsis or title drive you away. At first I was hesitant to read this but after reading some of the comments I went ahead with it. I must say it has one of the satisfying endings that I've come across recently. The art might take a little getting used to but it kind of suits the story and is definitely worth reading.
whoa! i really didn't expect that the perverted facade of this manga would turn out to have a lot more sense than those shitty shoujo manga. GAWD! awesome. after i got my eyes clouded with restrained tears, i found myself smiling at the ending. believe me. and focus more on the psychological genre of the manga. it actually highlights it and not the damn masturbation stuff. I RECOMMEND you read it.
I thought I have become severely perverted when I opened this page. good thing I read the comments. It's worth reading. please get on reading you'll not regret it.
i owe it to the commenters!
good thing i bothered reading. now I have another manga to remember and cherish the lessons i learned.
I was expecting a carefree kind of dark tale about a bout and his deeds, but i wasnt expecting the amazing character development, change of pace, and dark to light in 4 chapters!!! This has to be the oddest and weirdest manga ive read, but yet it is one of the most heartwarming. Yah somehow heartwarming and masturbation arent usually in the same plot, but this managed to to a great job.
Highly recommend this for mainly guys. As for girls, the amount of masturbation that goes on is probably really disturbing. GREAT MANGA!!!
this manga is one of a kind, and damn da ending was a huge huge surprise, cudnt predict at all. Honestly dis manga teaches u many things, dont be misled by da title. just read it give it a chance. howeva if ur lukn for all out romance dis manga is not for u. Its a mixture of things. A truly great manga.
9.5 because the artwork is too sketchy for me.
The ending is so awesome. It's fulfilling and unexpected. You can really see the change from the beginning to the end. Nearly all the characters annoyed me in the beginning but they slowly annoyed me less and less. Finally at the end I wasn't annoyed by anything and I never suspected for the main guy to end up with that girl.
:-)
If having doubts, don't you dare to skip this one.
Everything great comes to an end, and this one left a mark that will never fade.
The title, like has been said is really misleading.
Someone with a dark mind can really adapt to the gloomy atmosphere in the beginning. Yet still, the story is fun, touching and full of nice twists.
Blending into the characters is quite easy, yet still the characters are presented well as different kind of individuals. How the author grasps the depth of the reactions and feelings of the characters is just... beautiful.
Best thing? First series ever that actually made surprises.
While the synopsis might make you stop and reconsider reading this manga, please don't. Reading this manga has been one of the great experiences that don't come too often when going by on your daily routine of picking which new manga to unravel. It's told in a splendid way which makes it flow, and since it's short can be read in a 1-2 hour session. Characters and story work well together with unexpected twist coming along to thread the whole plot which works surprisingly well.
Never had any problem with the art and I actually kind of like it. The main character looks badass at times and the girls are really cute.
Props also go out to the translators since everything was easy to understand and clean.
Whoever rates this a 1 is a dumbass. The aforementioned dumbass must then be rolled within poison ivy. Then, his fingers should be chopped off. Make him drink his blood. Crucify that dumbass. Cause this is one of the best manga ever.
Art is doujin-like art. As in, tones are used in place of backgrounds a lot, backgrounds are less detailed then normal, and the lines aren't completely definied. Yet just one or two chapters into it, you'll accept it, and then it'll be sort of awesome. Everything about the art is perfect, for when it overdoes things to sort of imitate death note, or when there's an awesome scene happening. Art is just awesome, although at first it won't seem like it.
STORY IS UNBELIEVABLE. I mean, for the first two volumes, it'll be sort of funny and wtf, this is one funny messed up death note parody. Once you look over, though, the death note thing is only used for some comedy, but the story is always there. The main character is the most epic wtf quotient ever, and those situations are so messed up. But the story is already there. Pacing is sorta funny, quirky and perfect, but then falls into that epic dramatic that is so... awesome. Dialogue, psychological, eveything is amazing.
Main character is so light, but then he becomes himself. Kitahara is annoying, but the ending for her is so awesome. Everyone grows, changes, and you'll like even the minor characters. They're drawn pretty good, too.
In the end... if you're mature enough to read past the first volume or two, it'll so damn be worth it. Cricify the damn bitches that voted this 1, I think this might be my favorite mange ever. As a matter of fact, I won't delete this from my hard drive. I'll keep it there, wait three-four months, and read it again, just cause it's that damn awesome.
When I decided to read that manga I never expected something like this, I come to this series while searching for an Adult series and it's stand out as one of the highest rated manga. But I dropped after reading its description, I thought What the hell I will read a manga about a boy masturbate. I picked it up again after my friend strongly recommended it to me and well, it's really really a good read. Even though I must say that those first couples chapters is really dull, protagonist had kinda dirty obsession but I don't think it's so unrealistic, I make sense in the end of the story: "All middle school students are children." yeah the author overdid it a bit but it was solved well.
Although calling it as a masterpiece maybe overate it a bit but the last part of the manga is awesome. Both the ending in chapter 30 and extra chapter 31 is outstanding, I have read 100+ series but they are one of the best chapter I have ever read. The fact make it great not only because of the character development, the plot, stunning moment, suitable art, interesting romance but also the way the author created the story line, switch the time line a bit and the way he express Kurosawa thought, it makes the story dense and toughing, I was totally hooked by it.
I hate that the mangaka nowadays try to lengthen the story to 100+ chapter after it earn reputation but most part is not make sense at all, maybe because the author is Doujin so he is not affected by this fact. I'm looking forward for his other work in the future.
The only thing I dislike of this manga come from the point that I dont like light novel (its unnecessary 18+ , the way it introduces those girl... then the protagonist choose them...blah...blah) , and this story was made as one of them. Anyway, it's not bad at all.
Believe me, try to sit after the first half of the story, the second half will be of the best u have read.
