Can't really blame the anime on that one. While it's true that anime cut kirito's inner monologue a lot. But in term of story plot, they try to follow the original source as much as they can, tho they decide to do it in proper chronological order so as not confuse some of the viewers. It's just that the plots from the original book at that time has been compressed a lot, hence why the anime seems rushed too.
