and I'm glad I did. People's opinions of the main character made me not want to read this at all, but after I started, I really liked it. Neither of the main character are sleazy, like other readers may say. Though both could be considered perverted, they are really just two growing teens learning about their own sexual limits and what love really is. If the BDSM were to be replaced with baseball or martial arts, the storyline really wouldn't be any different. Though sexual perversion seems to be the focal point of the manga, it's not. The real focus is on the developing relationship between the two main characters. That being written, I wouldn't recommend this for anyone under 16.
I think him being a short, sleazy pervert, is what make this manga so funny, gotta love the narrow eyes and the rounded face he makes when seducing nana, is just too hilarious XD.
I've read this for a while, and I got to say:
This manga would be so much more enjoyable if the protagonist was actually likeable instead of a short, sleazy pervert.
A normal guy with a bondage fetish would've been perfectly fine.
Being somewhat familiar with bondage myself, I like the accurate depictions of it in this manga. How Kaoro ties someone up and then pretends to be absent for hours, whilst discreetly remaining nearby in case something goes wrong.
This is pretty much in line with the "safe, sane and consensual" rule practiced in BDSM.
I can't remember them agreeing on a safe word though... Or how to communicate this when one is unable to talk.
It gives an interesting look into the reasons why people practice bondage and submission. To push yourself beyond a barrier, to feel as if you were, and I quote from the manga, "a new person". The mutual trust involved and the importance of aftercare.
I hope this gets people interested in bdsm having seen how it is practiced safely and between consenting adults.
There are many inaccurate depictions around, most associating it with non-consensual sex. That, regardless of kink included, is always a bad thing. Unless, of course, you like it in the form of pre-agreed roleplay ๐
In short: Nana to Kaoru provides a more accurate and complete view into the world of bdsm than most works, and is therefore a rare gem, a 'must-read' for those who are curious about their kinks.
It's about the psychological interactions between the characters, and yes, this isn't as shallow as your generic shounen harem ecchi romantic comedy (as enjoyable as they are, in their own way) if that's what they perhaps were expecting.
Edit: because you're reducing it to something (unjustifiably) simple, that is "its just a manga about a creepy pathetic guy that likes to tie up chicks, and about a girl that likes to be tied up", rather than commenting on its actual merits or indeed its actual failures.
and it gets it right. that's very important, BDSM is not about the whip, Sensei does know that.
specially Nana's enjoyment and Kaoru's works are very well put together.
now where can i find that book Kaoru reads for Master education ๐
This is truly an awesome manga!! The plot are unique out there. It's so so so so unique that as far as i know, there isn't a manga that featuring S&M. Of course, except hentai.
I think this one is really entertaining. Sometime it made me excited! Sometime just so hilarious! Other time so gross! Certainly, this manga is interesting. It's hard to describe by words since im suck at writting.
Recommended for mature readers even if you dislike S&M (i myself do not like S&M but i still like the series though).
why do people like this? its just a manga about a creepy pathetic guy that likes to tie up chicks, and about a girl that likes to be tied up. it looks like the author is having a hard time writing this idiotic story because he is adding another girl to "breather" games that the main couple do. im starting to wonder if itll just turn into a hentai manga with two girls getting together. also, its obvious that she likes this boy and she sees nothing wrong with him tying up another girl, its just a weird sad manga....
Harimau: what are you talking about? what dont i get? i get that BDSM is something beyond just sex, its takes a lot of trust its a very powerful experience. however, i still dont like this manga and i have the right to my opinion. why should i like a manga with a creepy guy tying up some dumb girl? btw why is manga based on love between two people shallow? when this manga is about some guy getting off on tying up girls. lol
For something that sounds so perverted and into Bondage fetish, you would expect something totally ecchi, but this one is actually slow and surprisingly sensual and romantic.
It actually touches a deeper part of relationship build up and mutual trust without being too annoyingly perverted. Both hero and heroine are perverts, and it is fun to see heroine just as much perverted as hero, as usually in shounen's or seinen's males are more perverted minded.
Really recommended even if you are not into the whole bondage thing. This one is really good and romantic. Though I wish that male protagonist would look a little bit better.
I only started reading this by accident (it was manga of the week on Mangatraders and at that time was being scanlated by NCIS) and, omg, how good is it?!!!
Best manga in absolutely ages.
OK, not for everyone (or most people, tbh), but if you have a broad sense of morality and a good sense of humour, this is for you.
As you can see from the reviews, everyone brave enough to venture into the world of these two perverts is happy to be there!
I'm at something of a loss when it comes to quantifying my appreciation of this title. The characters are fairly shallow, come to think of it. There's really very little depth to either Nana or Kaoru. But what's lacking in character depth is more than made up for in the interaction between the two, I suppose. Nana's reluctance to humor Kaoru's increasingly demanding suggestions, and Kaoru's insistance on maintaining his attitude and pushing the limits with Nana, are amusing, and great at building tension and interest in their relationship. Especially because Nana is driven to continue her excercises with Kaoru, and Kaoru seems to have feelings for her that both drive his dominating side and cause him to second-guess himself. But the conflicts are the best part, because every time Nana gives in, and Kaoru pushes further, their relationship and trust for each other grow in ways that just wouldn't happen in an everyday relationship.
I feel like I'm rambling, but in closing, to summarize: This title is awesome. It's sexy, intriguing, fun, and exciting.
Where's the button for giving this an 11 rating?
this is a.. touchy manga for me to review. so do expect me to be totally subjective.
have you ever felt the.. rush of blood, not just in the obvious place you might think of first, but to the head, heart, limbs.. when you looked into the eyes of a person and saw how completely that person is yours? when you saw that nothing is taboo. that type of trust..
this is what nana to kaoru reminds me of all the time. I had a conversation with my ex a few years back. she wasn't an ex at the time and wasn't for quite a time to come in case you wonder..p we discussed basically s&m. and we both agreed that things change completely from what the general opinion of it is, when there are involved the same emotions on both ends. it turns into something.. more. like when you trust a person with your life. that is pretty dangerous, isn't it? but at the same time, even more exciting. on both parts. note how I don't want to assign genders. it's because genders dont matter. it doesn't matter who on the receiving end is. both are subject to the same feelings and excitement.
let me tie it up at the end by saying that this is even a manga that I would consider my girlfriend to read. even more because she doesn't understand it.
oh, one more thing. I don't see this manga ever truly becoming a hentai. because sex.. compared to this form of relationship, does not matter all that much. but that depends on a person ofc. ๐
