To be fair, it roughly matches the LN. It just diverges in a few key points. Most of which actually give 'more' context than the original plot. Like his people getting a front row seat to Desir's burden.

I do think more emphasis should have been put on him neutralizing the dragons explosion. The LN outright says that doing that should be impossible, unless he's been calculating it for a LONG time. Meaning, he's been calculating how to stop that explosion since the day he reincarnated, and every day after. During life and death fights, during casual days off, during his daily shower. He's been thinking about how he would sacrifice himself to save everyone. From day one, his plan was to die. It really got me emotionally in the LN. It just didn't hit very hard here because it wasn't the focus of the scene.

I agree it wasn't the best, but I think he did well enough. Enough that I don't hate it at least.
