Kubera

Well, I must to say this the only way you can really enjoy this. The original story was built as a novel so this really deep to get. Honestly, by now after re-read countless time, research infomation like crazy in net. I still not fully get some plots. well, may be i'm quite dumb.

That i want to say, kubera is the story nearly entire different compare with real world. different universe, different planet, race, natural things, rule, history ...... with many characters who has an important role in story. The story not only wiew throught as the main lead but each of side character.
so many mistery, event and future - present - and past bound strongly with each.

in first time i read, i complete confused as well. But I knew this is very well made story though i don't really get it. well, infact i drop it in FROZEN TEAR when I not done the first read. Just because I can't bear with tragedy, Teo and gandrvan is the most my favourite. still, i keep check weekly realese in hope. AND .......... so muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh happy

Kubera is one of the rare shounens I've read, and I regret not reading it until now. This is one heck of a manhua, and I say this with complete adoration, seriously, where do I begin?

Right of the bat, the story cuts straight to the chase and delves into the amazingly complex plot, never slowing down for the reader to comprehend what the actual crap just happened. Kubera throws you with multiple characters, the story from their point of view, and intervenes it with the other main character's, folding the layers upon layer of threads into a tapestry- masterpiece. Ugh such beaut. I've read it all in one go, and I KNOW I have to read it again, why? because it's so rich with double meaning. The subtle foreshadowing, and hints throughout the story is mind boggling and hints at the growing mystery while disguising itself as an answer (and it makes me so happy inside i cry, i cry so hard). It almost reminds me of Game of Thrones because of its intricateness.

This is the best mystery manhua/or manga for that matter, that I have read. You can make your predictions about characters/events but as the story progresses you realise nothing is for certain. Kubera's core plot is also labelled, by the author, as a love story. And that's another reason for why Kubera is amazingly-awesomesly-i-want-to-read-it-erryday you have the mystery, the action, the drama, the romance, interspersed together with comedy and woven together with this kick ass plot, merde, why wouldn't you read this? (unless you hate those things, in which case I am judging you)

So yeah, do yourself a favour, read Kubera. Why? because KUBERAAAAAA (yeah I'm totally not biased, nope)

... and multiple characters, then you will enjoy this series. If you also like fantasy, adventure, and supernatural elements to go along with your multi-layered main dish, then you will especially like Kubera.

This webtoon has dozens of characters, all of whom have some significance, and dozens of plot lines, all that overlap with each other in some form or fashion. So it is really important to remember at all the characters' names, the names of who they are related to and how they are related, what they did in the past, what they said to other characters in the past, what they are doing at present, who they are involved with in the present, and what they plan to do in the future. And just to reiterate, there is a crazy amount of characters.

The plot.... well, just read above paragraph and apply it to plot lol. Theories abound for this series, and they are just as complex and convoluted as the story. I will say that Kubera has created an entire world with different intelligent species, hierarchies, planets, cities, etc.

If this story sounds interesting because of its romance... well, it is not that there is not romance, but it is better to read it for something else. The artist herself said that she sucks at romance (ha), which is odd because she also said that Kubera at its heart is a love story. I'm not quite sure how that works, because what little is seen of it is both heart-breaking and cringe-worthy.

As a reader -- and as a person -- who likes things simple, Kubera really isn't my cup of tea. But there's about four or five characters that I really like, including the (supposedly) main character, Leez. Plus I do love the comedy aspect -- currygom, when she isn't busy torturing her characters (and her fans), has a good sense of humor. The art is nice too.

TLDR; If you like to imagine an entire different world with an entire different set of rules, read Kubera. If you are like me and prefer something linear that doesn't require a lot of thought, you may want to pass on this series.

This manhwa is unlike most manga/manhwa out there, where the authors would drag the plot because they want their story to last longer. Each part of Kubera's plot is planned out for a purpose, and surely not for increasing the number of pages. You need to REALLY get into the Kubera world building and truly follow all characters to really enjoy Kubera, because any character whose faces are shown (for insignificant characters currygom doesn't draw their face) has an important role to play and each detail of the world building will reveal something important about the story. I used to read Kubera just for the romance and wasn't really into it at first. Then one day I was bored enough to re-read Kubera from the very first chapter (Kubera was already running its second season at that time). After the re-reading, I understand Kubera so much better and was truly hooked to the story.
That's my conclusion: Kubera is not the type of manga you can skim through and read only the parts that you like, Kubera can only and will 90% surely become your favorite once you are able to spend some time reading it carefully and understand what it is all about.
I rate this 10/10. One of very few masterpieces that one could stumble upon. Other masterpieces I could remember are Monster and Hyakki Yakoushou.

I have to admit I didn't take Kubera very well at first. Bland artwork, retarded main character, majority of suffering caused by character miscommunication, very confusing at first read. That's first impression and it stuck with me for well over a year of reading it as Tog past time.

Fortunately slow update times got me to the batoto forums in search of raw translation, and reading the discussions made me realize how much has flown right past me. So I took my time and researched the whole thing, and since then it has been one of the most gratifying reads in my 10 year reading history, and now it's Tog that's Kubera past time for me.

(I hope SIU gets his surgery done and get back to season 1 quality and complexity instead of "You just activated my trap card" back and forth.)

It's a tragedy through and through, so be warned. You have to do your homework too. And it's slow, but when you get to climax, it's a very long climax too. Painful, even.

Obviously I'm rating just my enjoyment from it, and it's a bit on the masochist side.

I think just that one word sums it up.

Sadly, a lot of the story is written in a very confused way and the secrets aren't exactly revealed in a way that would make it any less confusing. What mostly stands out is suffering of certain characters and you often can't help but think "BUT NOTHING OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THEY ACTUALLY TALKED INSTEAD OF KEEPING MORE SECRETS OMG." It certainly seems like most of the characters are set on keeping their suffering for themselves. On the positive side, the world building in Kubera is quite nice and many of the characters are awesome. It does however feel like the author is not quite managing to keep all those characters up on the level they were introduced and because 90% of the story is spent on the many characters suffering, the story advances very slow. If you don't read it at once, you will probably forget during the month or two or three what was even happening to the group that wasn't in picture for a while, because there just is that many characters - and the count is growing.

Overall I still enjoy this series and don't really understand those that keep comparing this to Tower of God as I can't really see much in common between the series. Sure, the genre is similar, but you can say that about many others. Is it because both of them are Naver webcomics and even scanlated by same group while being fantasy shounen adventure? I don't really understand that.

Annoying (almost) ret-r-ed character's. I get interested in reading this because people keep comparing it to ToG saying it's better.

I read it, clean my browser history and start re-reading ToG from the beginning to get rid of the bad taste it left in my mind.

P.S - To people who keep comparing manhwa/manga/novel. Keep that sh- to yourself.

The genders of the characters are different from what you'd usually expect. The typical shounen protagonist Leez loves eating, has superhuman strength but not much technical know-how and gains an item that makes her insanely powerful at controlling magic. Other than the fact that she's a girl, there's not much that sets her apart from other shounen protagonists. The cool, mysterious and tall guy trope has been turned into a female here (Asha) and the sweet, kind girl trope who usually accompanies the team is a guy (Yuta). But then again, if you enjoy shounen, you'd probably love this. In particular, the character design, portrayal and backstory of the Gods are really interesting, and the character designs are intricate and fitting. Another unique point is the constant switching back and forth through different perspectives, such that there isn't a clear antagonist at times (which is good!) since most characters have been so well developed. If you like mainstream shounen, go ahead and give this a try. However, if you're looking for a unique read that steers away from the typical shounen tropes, you'd probably enjoy Tower of God a lot more.

It was so good, but this sh** doesnt really advance, and now (v2. 57) they

killed my favorite char so far, high chances of dropping this after the next chap.

This is a great story. The plot is extremely well-developed, thought out and even-paced. The detail and elaboration is what really makes it stand out. I'm such a fan of this manhwa I don't think I could let myself be disappointed, even knowing sad things may happen... but still, whatever's coming will be exciting, and every piece of information important in some way. All the characters are distinguishable and driven with different goals in which they strive for. There aren't just heros, heroines and vicious foes, but many sides to the story that conflict and intertwine.

However, what I particularly love is that this is an all-in-one type of manga. It's adventurous, comedic (hilarious at times), dramatic and has romance to come (it's apparently romance-based, though subtle as of now)~ And it has it's share of action and battles between the godly-powerful. Waiting for the next however many chapters until it's finished will be unbearably tough... but it's worth it!

Love that it's in full color, and lengthy as well. (it took me days to catch up on it)
If you start reading it, pay attention and take it slower so you can register all the information.

This is one manga i get so excited and happy when they release another chapter. I don't have a specific preference when ready manga manhua webtoons ect and read many different kinds and I must say this one is one of my absolute favs!!!!!!although I do wish releases where faster(who wouldn't want to Know is what's going to happen) however the releases are not slow enough to where I would curse the author for going soooo slow 😛 ... This was one of the first manga of this type that I have read and I was pleasantly surprised and happy that I started to read it. I personally have nothing bad to say about the story line or art- I LOVE both!!!!!! I appreciated the character development and am enjoying the plot that is starting to come together.and although we get little glimpse Into the future I still can't predict what's going to happen.. And this is one of the first mangas I have read that the story line was not predictable and cliche- so you can see why I'm soo excited about every release!!! If your like me and haven't read this type of manga before, give it a try before you judge!! I kept seeing the release of this manga many times before I tried reading it. I thought it wouldn't be what I was looking for at the time and waited a little before I tried it and boy am I glad i started reading it !! And you will be to!

To put it bluntly, this series appears at first to be an action/adventure comedy, but reveals itself, in fact, to be an epic mystery/tragedy.

At first glance, it appears to be Kubera Leez' story of survival and revenge, as she sets off when her village is instantly destroyed. However, the true story is unveiled not just through her, but through 10 main characters (not counting major side characters), with a wide range of motives from saving their loved ones, to revenge, to aiding their declining races or more.

And through them, the true story unfolds, as events that transpired across half a dozen races, several generations, several centuries, multiple planets and even multiple realms are progressively revealed. And the current events are just the next chapter in this "war with no villains, only victims."

Strengths:

• A diverse and endearing set of characters (including excellent female characters), where "each character is the protagonist of his own life." The characters are not locked into the standard roles of protagonists and villains. Instead, depending on who they're with, they're family or a friend, a monster, manipulator or a victim, an idealist or a heinous hyprocite, or even all at the same time. And even though they initially seem based on standard tropes, the way they're pit against one another and against the harsh realities of this world is anything but standard: family, friendship, love, the power to accomplish one's goals and even one's ideals and convictions, all too often the characters are allowed to choose just one and forced to sacrifice the rest, or end up losing everything instead. None of the characters are extras, instead all of them bring their own piece to the core story, and interact in surprising ways with one another.
• A vast, interesting world, with complex dynamics between the races (8 Sura races, the Gods and the humans, each with their own alliances and enemies, and individuals with their own conflicting agendas). The truth about the cataclysmic events that occurred in the past is still slowly being revealed.
• Complex plot told through an unusual narrative model that mixes the present, past events and even glimpses of the future. With each new revelation however, more questions are raised than answered. You'll think you know the whole plot by Chapter 2, but by Chapter 100 you'll be struggling to guess the true motivations of the characters.
• Yet the cohesive writing never falls into retcon or plot holes: the story was originally planned as a novel, and the consistency of the trail of clues shows that the author knows where this is going. There will be dozens of instances where you'll want to go back dozens, or even over 100 chapters back to find back the clues relating to the ongoing events (I have the equivalent of a 25 page document just to keep track of what was revealed, and in which chapter, lol).
• It has a rather... unique atmosphere. The series will often make you laugh, only to shock you with the brutality of what the characters have gone through. The series never shoves the drama into your face though, in fact you'll often forget that the characters are completely miserable because they pretend to be fine.
• The art starts out weak, but improves greatly over time. The characters have great visual designs, and the diverse facial expressions are hilarious.

Weaknesses:* Slow pacing, especially at the beginning. The story is about 80% plot and characters, and 20% action, moreso since it takes the time to gradually reveal the past of the characters. This is made worse by...

• Weekly cliffhangers. They burn. I'm not even joking...
• You may be disappointed with how little the "main" character does in Part I, as the story unfolds through many characters at the same time. In fact, most of the characters in this series are suppressing their true motives and feelings, and you will only see through them if you pay attention. Kubera Leez, for example, is only pretending to be alright, but she is so good at pretending that even many readers seem to be fooled. =.=;;
• Story can be confusing to read. If you just plan to spend a few minutes reading it every week, you'll likely get lost pretty soon. If you enjoy piecing together pieces of the puzzle together, however, this series is for you. In fact, I would say this series is actually best the first time you re-read it.
• Art-wise, background art is the author's weakness.

Read it if you like a good mystery. Don't read it if you're looking for weekly action.

Overall, Kubera offers a blend of genres that I don't think I've ever seen in any other series. This was so novel that I initially didn't even know what it was about the series that I liked so much. Because its strengths are so different than typical manga stories, it can be easy to miss them: readers who approach it expecting to read a traditional journey of a hero's ascendancy will soon walk away confused and disappointed, not realizing that the meat of the true story lies (initially at least) in the mystery aspects that he's likely skimmed over. (basically, it'd be like trying to read a crime novel like an action series, then complaining you don't know who the culprit is)

For readers that persist, however, they will be rewarded with an amazing reading experience, where each new re-reads yield new pieces of the puzzle, hinting at huge and incredible events leading up to the current story.
