I do agree that the atmosphere took a pretty hard turn, but I don't think that is without its place. The manga has set up well that this dungeon is supposed to be difficult to the point of nearly impossible to clear, and that despite his clear power Yolk has a clear understanding that the stakes are high. In the last few chapters, we saw him put everything on the line to save his friends, bear the full weight of a grudge from his enemies, and see what happens to those that fall victim to the dungeon all in rather grueling detail. We are now well set up to understand that while the world at large might as well be a sandbox to this party, this dungeon is by no means fucking around. This wouldn't be the first time that death was on the line, so setting up some stakes by having the closing scene to this expedition be a truly horrific scene that they will have to dive back into to save our sympathetic previous party member will serve to up the tension in the coming chapters.

I have to say the art isn't all that bad, but yuurei your comment is great and I laughed.
