Ehhhh... the marquis didn't do anything 'wrong' tho. He didn't overwrite the king's orders, MC chose to respond to him instead of following orders. Braindead MC could've just refuse, stating he's under orders from the king, the end. But author just needed to force it, thus writing the dumbest of dumb dumb among many dumb situations in his story.

PS: In fact, MC's action of ignoring the king for the marquis can be considered as treason because he's showing everyone that he believes the marquis have a higher authority than the king. (Spoilers) Of course MC will just get a light slap on the wrist while the marquis is punished heavily because of MC's actions, because author says so. (Not saying marquis isn't a big baddie who might be working with the enemy or whatever)
